Rex Burkhead (neck) is practicing for the Patriots.

This means Burkhead has been designated to return off injured reserve, and he’s eligible to play on December 2 against the Vikings. Burkhead was placed on injured reserve at the end of September with a neck injury, but thankfully it’s not serious enough that it affects him long-term. Sony Michel and James White—and now Cordarrelle Patterson—have really seized control of New England’s backfield, but Burkhead is a valuable versatile player that can contribute on both offense and on special teams. If you have a bench spot, he might be worth a pickup as a potential fantasy asset down the stretch, especially in deeper leagues.

Sammy Watkins (foot) is not practicing today.

This is Watkins’ second straight missed practice, and his status isn’t looking good for Sunday. If you’re stuck between Watkins and someone in tonight’s game, you should probably go with the player in tonight’s game, as it doesn’t look like Watkins is going to play. Nonetheless, we’ll update you with his official game status when it’s released tomorrow.

Darren Sproles re-aggravated his hamstring in yesterday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This came just after Eagles head coach Doug Pederson indicated Sproles would be ready to return for this Sunday night’s matchup with the Cowboys. Having been sidelined since Week 1 with previous optimism about an earlier return, it seems Sproles has suffered at least a couple of setbacks as he tries to return from this hamstring injury. It’s unfortunate for the 35-year-old, but hopefully he’s able to get back to 100% so he can play again in what he’s said will be his final NFL season. We’ll update you if anything changes, but expect Sproles to be out for Week 10.

Cameron Meredith (knee) is being placed on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This better explains the Dez Bryant signing from yesterday. Meredith is reportedly getting arthroscopic knee surgery, which isn’t a great sign after he came off a very serious knee injury suffered last preseason when he was a member of the Bears. Perhaps Meredith can be brought back after eight weeks as a designated-to-return player in the postseason, but his regular season is over. Meredith caught nine receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown in six games this season. He’ll look to get healthier and become a bigger part of the offense moving forward.

The Texans waived Tyler Ervin.

Houston claimed wide receiver DeAndre Carter from the Eagles, so they’re going in a different direction with another player that can contribute as a returner. Ervin will now go through waivers.

Carter was just waived by the Eagles yesterday, and he lands in a nice spot with the Texans. Carter was impressive during the preseason and can contribute on special teams as well as offense, but he’s not a recommended fantasy pickup outside of deep dynasty leagues.

The Vikings waived running back Roc Thomas, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

This is a corresponding move with the team claiming former Lions running back Ameer Abdullah off waivers. Minnesota will almost certainly try to add Thomas to their practice squad if he’s not claimed on waivers.
