Join now >The Patriots signed Danny Etling to the practice squad.
The rookie quarterback from LSU cleared waivers, so New England was able to get him on their practice squad. It’s a good sign for Etling that head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots like him.

Le’Veon Bell remains away from the Steelers.
Pittsburgh has essentially made it clear for a while that they aren’t too worried about their All-Pro running back until he reports to the team, and they’ve made it clear—coaches and players—this week leading up to Week 1 that second-year back James Conner can get the job done. Today was considered the first official practice of the week, and Bell was not there, so everyone is expecting Conner to start against the Browns. Even if Bell reports later today, tomorrow, or Friday, there’s a chance he doesn’t even suit up for the opener. If you’re holding your fantasy draft tonight ahead of tomorrow’s NFL Kickoff Game, you should probably knock Bell down a few notches on your draft board, especially with so many good options at the top of drafts.

The Dolphins claimed Tanner McEvoy.
McEvoy was waived yesterday, and he lands in a good spot in Miami. It’s possible the big receiver immediately contributes some on offense if DeVante Parker (finger) misses Week 1.

DeVante Parker (finger) will not play in the season opener, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero.
The fourth-year receiver is still dealing with his broken finger, and the team isn’t going to rush him back into action. Look for Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant to be a bigger part of the gameplan along with starters Kenny Stills and Danny Amendola versus the Titans. Consider Parker 50/50 for Week 2 against the Jets for now.

The Giants claimed wide receiver Kaelin Clay.
Clay has been with the Panthers and Bills for the last year-plus, getting waived by Buffalo yesterday. He will fill a reserve receiver role with the ability to contribute on special teams for the Giants.

Curtis Samuel will likely miss the season opener after undergoing a procedure for an irregular heartbreak, according to Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport says it’s a “small procedure,” so hopefully it’s minor enough that it doesn’t impact Samuel at all beyond this week. The second-year wideout is currently listed as a third-team receiver on the team’s depth chart. He is just a name to keep in mind in deeper leagues right now, but we like his potential if given an opportunity.

The Dolphins claimed quarterback Luke Falk.
The sixth-round rookie selected by the Titans did not clear waivers to get to Tennessee’s practice squad. Instead, he’ll join the Dolphins where he might be able to eventually compete for the backup quarterback role as a rookie.
