Join now >Josh Allen leaves preseason game with apparent head injury.
Allen just took a big hit with under a minute to go in the first half, and his head slammed on the turf. The rookie quarterback appeared to want to remain in the game, but it was out of his hands. Allen is now headed to the locker room, and his day is almost certainly done. Buffalo’s offense line played very poorly against Cincinnati, giving Allen (sacked five times) little time to throw, which makes it a tough evaluation for the coaches as they determine a starting quarterback. Allen was 6/12 for 34 yards before leaving. We might see Allen in the team’s fourth preseason game this week.

The Patriots are releasing Kenny Britt, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Britt hasn’t been able to get healthy this summer because of a hamstring issue, so the Patriots decided to just cut ties with the veteran receiver. There was some thought that Britt might have a sizable role as a big outside target for Tom Brady, but it was beginning to look very unlikely that would happen as he wasn’t able to get back to 100% with the season approaching. This is probably good news for Phillip Dorsett, who could be poised for a starting role all season in New England.

Michael Floyd has been released by the Saints, according to multiple reports.
Floyd was a late signing for New Orleans, and he seemed to face long odds at a roster spot in a deep group. The former first-round pick is still in his prime at 28, but he’s caught just 14 passes for New England and Minnesota over the past two years. It will be interesting to see if a receiver-needy team takes a flier on him at some point soon.

DeAndre Washington underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
Washington will not play on Friday against the Packers, and the beginning of the season could be in jeopardy. It’s worth noting that Jon Gruden said that he is high on the third-year back. This could be an opening for impressive undrafted free agent Chris Warren III to make the team. Jalen Richard, who has played well this season, gets a boost with Washington out; Richard could be the team’s primary third-down option to open the year.

Michael Campanaro has been placed on injured reserve.
Campanaro was injured during the offseason, then he was injured again during training camp, so the Titans went ahead and placed him on injured reserve. It’s unclear what the injury is, but Campanaro’s season is done if he remains on injured reserve. Campanaro would have contributed on special teams and some on offense if he made the team.

The Chargers may use more three-wide receiver sets because of Mike Williams’ emergence.
Jim Trotter of NFL.com wrote a piece about the potential breakout of the second-year receiver, who has made plays all summer, which has everyone with the Chargers excited. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn told Trotter you would think Williams is a “speed-rush defensive end” if you just looked at him, adding: “He’s a big man when you get those pads on, and he’s going to be another viable option for us. We’ve got Keenan, but people can double him. They can go double-double on the outside, so you’re going to need another big target. I think Mike can do that. We maybe be in more three-wide receiver sets if he keeps coming. Right now, we’re putting him in situations to make plays and he keeps making them.” Tyrell Williams is likely to open the season as the No. 2 receiver behind Allen, but Williams might play well enough that he forces himself into a huge role for the Chargers. A great talent with Philip Rivers throwing him passes, Williams is obviously one of the best late-round targets in fantasy drafts.

The 49ers have released wide receiver Aldrick Robinson.
A favorite of Kyle Shanahan throughout his career, Robinson caught 19 passes for 260 yards and two scores last year with San Francisco, but he wasn’t able to carve out a roster spot this summer. The veteran will probably be one of the more proven cuts made over the next 24 hours, so he should get a shot somewhere else when injuries start to hit the league.
