Join now >The Jets waived-injured wide receiver Lucky Whitehead.
It’s unclear what the injury is for Whitehead, but he didn’t practice this past week and did not play in Friday’s preseason game. Whitehead was in the mix as a returner for the Jets. If no team claims Whitehead, he’ll revert to the Jets injured reserve.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says that Rashaad Penny (finger) could return in the preseason.
The rookie is back in pads at practice today—though still limited—and he could apparently see some game action before the regular season after Carroll claimed that he could be ready for the team’s final preseason contest. Of course, Penny is going to miss the important regular season dress rehearsal this weekend, which will allow Chris Carson to continue to operate as the clear lead back. That said, returning before Week 1 would obviously be a good sign for the first-round pick, who at worst will operate as a change-of-pace option with added value in the return game.

The Texans waived Braxton Miller, according to multiple reports.
The former star quarterback-turned-receiver at Ohio State was selected in the third round of the 2016 draft. He’s an explosive athlete that should have multiple teams willing to add him to their roster. We’ll see if anyone claims Miller of it he hits the open market as a free agent.

The Titans hope Rishard Matthews will be back soon.
Matthews is dealing with an undisclosed injury, and that’s all we know, as teams are not required to give injury information during the summer. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel saying the team hopes Matthews is back “soon” is about all the information that’s been available on the receiver since he’s been placed on the PUP list. The Titans signed Matthews to a one-year extension (team option) this morning, and he could get back on the field any day now. However, appearing in the team’s third preseason game on Sunday is a stretch.

The MRI on Griff Whalen’s foot was negative.
Whalen left last night’s preseason game with a toe injury and was seen with a walking boot after the game, but it apparently isn’t too serious. Whalen might miss the team’s final preseason game this week, though. He’s off the fantasy radar, but he’s battling for a roster spot in Oakland.

The Saints have released running back Terrance West, according to multiple reports.
Jonathan Williams and rookie Boston Scott have both impressed at running back for New Orleans, which might have forced West out. The good news for West is that release gives him some time to find a new team ahead of the mass cuts set to take place after the preseason.

The Eagles waived quarterback Christian Hackenberg.
The former second-round pick Hackenberg was a major long shot to make Philadelphia’ roster, as he arrived relatively late in the summer and had three quarterbacks locked into roster spots ahead of him. Hackenberg will receive interest from other teams, but he might need to settle for a practice squad.
