Join now >The Cowboys have signed wide receiver Deonte Thompson.
It’s a one-year deal for Thompson. Thompson played well for a Bills playoff team last season, catching 27 passes for 430 yards and one touchdown in 11 games with the team after catching 11 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown in five games with the Bears. This signing probably means Dallas won’t be bringing back free agent receiver Brice Butler, though Butler has said he wants to go somewhere he’ll be a starter anyway. Thompson might push Terrance Williams for snaps on the outside opposite Dez Bryant this season, but he’s not a recommended 2018 fantasy selection at the moment.

Panthers quarterbacks coach Scott Turner says Cam Newton is still going to run.
Turner said similar things to his father—new Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who spoke last month—about the team’s franchise quarterback. Scott Turner did also say they want to get the completion percentage of Newton (58.5% for his career) up. Overall, the new offensive coaching staff is going to let Cam Newton be himself, which is a dynamic playmaking quarterback that can make plays with his legs and can make impressive throws down the field. But they’ll probably help the 2015 NFL MVP refine his game, with more check-downs instead of always trying to make big plays. Explosive second-year back Christian McCaffrey being on the team should help, as he can turn check-downs into huge plays. While it might be tough to top his 35-pass-touchdown, 10-interception 2015 season, perhaps Newton will get closer to that 30-passing-touchdown mark, which he has not hit in any of his other first six NFL seasons.

Mike Davis is re-signing with the Seahawks on a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport.
After playing well in stretches last season when given an opportunity with Seattle, Davis will be back in the mix for them in 2018. The Seahawks are likely to add more in the backfield to go along with Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise, but the 25-year-old Davis might have an opportunity to carve out a solid role for a team that pushes competition for starting spots.

Giants GM Dave Gettleman praises Eli Manning.
Gettleman says Manning’s second game against the Eagles, who are representing the NFC in the Super Bowl, in which he threw for 434 yards and three touchdowns “was not a mirage.” The new GM of the Giants also made it clear that they were not locked into taking a quarterback with the second pick in the draft, and will instead draft the best player available. Quarterback should not be ruled out early in the draft for the Giants, but it certainly sounds like Manning will be the starter for New York in 2018. If they Giants are going best player available and the Browns pass on Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, we would think there’s a solid chance Manning has a new lethal weapon out of the backfield next season.

The Texans waived wide receiver Cobi Hamilton.
The former Steelers receiver will now hit the waiver wire and teams will have an opportunity to claim him. If no one claims Hamilton, he will become a free agent and free to sign with any team.

A.J. McCarron won his grievance case against the Bengals, according to Ian Rapoport.
After four season with the Bengals, the former Alabama quarterback is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in March when free agency begins. This is a huge win for McCarron, who was in danger of not having enough accrued season to be an unrestricted free agent, which likely would have meant him spending another season in Cincinnati as a backup if no team gave up premium draft picks for him. Now McCarron is likely to receive a lot of interest on the free agent market, with the Browns the easiest team to connect given they almost traded for him ahead of the deadline during the season. The plan for Cleveland might be to bring in McCarron along with a rookie via the first or fourth overall pick in this year’s draft, but the former Alabama quarterback is expected to have more suitors than just the Browns. Keep in mind, there are a ton of potential free agent quarterbacks available, though, and it’s possible there aren’t enough spots available for everyone to get a starting gig.

The Falcons signed tight end Logan Paulsen.
Paulsen, who is entering his ninth year in the NFL, didn’t catch a pass in 14 games with the 49ers last year. He’ll give the Falcons more depth at one of their weakest positions, but he’s not expected to be a recommended fantasy option in 2018.
