Jamal Agnew | Falcons WR

The Jaguars are signing Jamal Agnew, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Agnew had a decent offensive role last year for Detroit, and now we’ll see if he can build on that in Jacksonville. While the biggest contribution from the former All-Pro returner might end coming on special teams, the reported details on the contact (three years for up to $21 million) are certainly interesting. Right now, the expectation is still that 2020 second-round pick Laviska Shenault Jr. will fill the versatile role that various players filled for Urban Meyer in college, but Agnew is a decent flier in dynasty leagues.

Andre Roberts | Texans WR

The Texans are signing Andre Roberts.

It’ll be a two-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Roberts can contribute at receiver, but he’s most dangerous as a returner and should make a big impact there for Houston.

Jonnu Smith | Dolphins TE

Jonnu Smith is signing with the Patriots.

This was one of the most predictable potential partnerships ahead of free agency, and it came together quickly with Smith and New England agreeing to a four-year, $50 million deal within an hour of the legal tampering period opening. Coming off a career-best 41/448/8 line in his fourth season with the Titans, Smith is one of this year’s most intriguing free agents. The 25-year-old is very athletic and versatile (even playing some running back for Tennessee), and his role in the Patriots figures to be a very big one with the money they are paying him.

Kyle Juszczyk | 49ers FB

The 49ers have re-signed Kyle Juszczyk to a five-year, $27-milliom deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

General manager John Lynch had hinted something was close, and the 49ers have officially locked up their fullback ahead of free agency. From a real-life perspective, Juszczyk is a huge piece for Kyle Shanahan’s offense,

Isaiah Ford | Bears WR

The Dolphins are not tendering Isaiah Ford.

Ford was set to be a restricted free agent, but the Dolphins are opting to let him test the market. The Virginia Tech product could still return to Miami, as he did last season following a brief stint in New England.

Taysom Hill | Saints TE

The Saints have restructured Taysom Hill’s contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s apparently a four-year, $140-million extension, but all years are voidable—so the deal is really just to create cap space this season. Hill will in actuality get about $12 million guaranteed this year with a chance to increase that via incentives. The retirement of Drew Brees obviously makes Hill a candidate to start at quarterback in the fall, though we’ll see if the team re-signs Jameis Winston or makes another move.

Drew Brees | Retired QB

Drew Brees is retiring from the NFL after 20 seasons.

This had been the expectation after the 2020 season, but it had to be a very difficult decision for Brees walking away from the game. Brees’ career ends with a 67.7% completion percentage, 80,358 passing yards, 571 passing touchdowns, and 243 interceptions. His career completion percentage is the second-best in history, and he has the three highest seasons in terms of completion percentage in league history (74.4%, 74.3%, and 72.0%). Brees was formerly the all-time leader in passing touchdowns (Tom Brady has since broke the mark), and he currently holds the record for the most passing yards in history during the regular season (Brady will break the record next season if he stays healthy). As an undersized quarterback that underwent a serious shoulder injury in 2005, the former second-round pick became one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time and will almost certainly be headed to the Hall of Fame as a first-ballot selection in five years. Brees spent five seasons with the Chargers and 15 with the Saints, winning Super Bowl XLIV in 2010. Brees, who has been one of the game’s top class acts and means a ton to the city of New Orleans, now has a broadcasting career waiting for him at NBC, and we wish him luck. We’ll likely see a lot of Brees over the years if and when he takes over Sunday Night Football for NBC.
