Join now >Kasen Williams did not make the Seahawks roster.
There really wasn’t anything more Williams could have done this preseason, and his release comes as a huge surprise after how well he played this summer. Williams flashed huge big-play ability and took advantage of his time with the first team in the Seahawks’ third preseason game, and he should definitely draw a ton of interest elsewhere. It’s safe to say Seattle would love to get him through waivers and on to the practice squad, but chances are he gets claimed by another team.

Charles Clay leads Buffalo in targets in Week 1.
Clay had nine targets against the Jets, catching four of them for 53 yards and a touchdown. The 28-year-old tight end had a long of 35 yards in the game, and the touchdown came on a one-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor. The Bills are going to establish the running game again this season, so Clay should have opportunities on play-action passes. He gets the Panthers next Sunday.

Trevone Boykin doesn’t make Seattle’s final roster.
The second-year undrafted quarterback from TCU struggled a bit this preseason and was beat out by Austin Davis for the backup job behind Russell Wilson. Because of his skill set and flashes he showed as a rookie, Boykin was seen as a near-lock entering the preseason. It’s definitely possible the Seahawks decide to bring him back at some point, if not other teams will likely be interested.

Rob Gronkowski catches only two passes in Week 1.
Gronk was in a great matchup with All-Pro safety Eric Berry, and he ended up with only two receptions (on six targets) for 33 yards. He also initially had a touchdown on a nice diving play in the end zone, but it was overturned after it was determined the ball hit the ground. Gronk also drew a pass interference call to set up a touchdown. The elite tight end looks noticeably thinner, likely due to his adoption of Tom Brady’s method of training. He’s pretty much the top tight end option every week, including Week 2 against the Saints.

Paxton Lynch (shoulder) is expected to be out 3-4 weeks, according to Adam Schefter.
Lynch landed on his shoulder in the Broncos’ third preseason game, and him being out a few more weeks is part of why the Broncos wanted to re-sign Brock Osweiler after he was cut from the Browns. John Elway said Lynch will be the backup when he’s back and healthy, but we’ll see what happens when that time comes.

Jordan Matthews leads Bills in receiving in first game with the team.
Matthews caught two-of-three targets for 61 yards against the Jets, including along of 47 yards. The fourth-year receiver should get more targets moving forward, but the Bills are going to run the ball a lot when possible. Matthews is a FLEX option in Week 2 against Carolina.
