Osweiler spent a year with the Texans and an offseason/preseason with the Browns, but he’ll be back in Denver with the Broncos. Elway says Osweiler will backup Trevor Siemian until Paxton Lynch returns, at which time the team will decide whether or not they will keep Osweiler. Siemian is totally locked in as the starter, but don’t be surprised if Osweiler—who had great success with Denver in 2015—makes some starts if Siemian struggles.

Brandin Cooks catches three-of-seven targets in Patriots debut.
Cooks had 88 yards on his three receptions, including a 54-yard reception on a perfect deep ball from Tom Brady. The 23-year-old receiver worked mostly on the outside, with Danny Amendola taking most of the snaps in the slot before he left the game. Brady appears to trust Cooks to make plays, which is a great sign for his fantasy value. Cooks gets the team that traded him in Week 2, so he’ll be an obvious WR1 with a lot of upside.

The Patriots released RB Brandon Bolden, according to Field Yates.
Bolden was likely on the very edge of making the Patriots roster, as he is a guy that can contribute on both offense and special teams. Bolden was undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2012 and spent all five of his seasons in New England. According to reports, the team wants to find a way to bring Bolden back, which isn’t surprising. We’ll likely hear about Bolden in the coming days, whether it’s him returning to New England or otherwise.

Mike Tolbert gets 13 touches in Week 1.
Tolbert had 12 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown along with a 12-yard reception on his lone target against the Jets. The Bills ran 42 times, so there was more than enough work for Tolbert behind LeSean McCoy. This could be a weekly formula for the Bills, who want to rely on their running game and defense to win them games. Tolbert is worth a pickup as someone that looks like they might receive 10+ touches per game and some goal line looks this season. He plays his former team, the Panthers, next Sunday.

The Patriots cut RB D.J. Foster.
The second-year undrafted back fell victim to the numbers game in New England’s backfield, but he is a definite candidate for the team’s practice squad.

Travis Kelce catches five passes in Week 1 win over the Pats.
It’s clear the Patriots did not want to allow Kelce to beat them, as he was doubled on many plays and wasn’t allowed to catch his usual shallow crossing routes. The Chiefs still got the ball in Kelce’s hands with a few shuffle passes, and he had five receptions for 40 yards total in the game. Kelce has another difficult matchup in Week 2 against the Eagles, but he’s still a top-five option at tight end.

The Chargers cut running back Kenjon Barner.
Barner didn’t make it with the Chargers as a backup behind Melvin Gordon, but the former Oregon star will receive interest from other teams. Barner formerly played for the Eagles and the Panthers.
