Ryan Mallett averages 3.2 yards per attempt in preseason debut.

Mallett was 9/18 for 58 yards, starting in the place of Joe Flacco (back). The former third-round pick has a rocket arm, but he just hasn’t shown that he can be a quality quarterback in the NFL. If Flacco has a setback or takes longer than expected to recover, Baltimore should probably sign Robert Griffin III—or even Tim Tebow—to fill in, because they can’t waste any regular season games with their ready-to-contend defense in a competitive AFC.

C.J. Anderson carries five times for 21 yards in preseason game against Chicago.

Jamaal Charles did not play, but Anderson was the clear starter in the game. The fifth-year back is fully expected to get the majority of Denver’s carries this season, with Charles and others mixing in. He’s currently going in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Blake Bortles goes 3/5 for 16 yards in preseason opener.

New England didn’t play their first-team unit in the game. Bortles worked on improving his throwing motion this offseason, but its still noticeably long. He’ll face Tampa Bay in Week 2 of the preseason.

Paxton Lynch goes 6/9 for 42 yards against the Bears in Week 1 of the preseason.

Lynch also had four carries for 11 yards. He came in after Trevor Siemian started the game. Based off the short time they were in, Siemian probably helped himself more in this game, though Lynch is scheduled to start the second preseason game next Saturday and could make a statement with a great performance.

DeVante Paker had one catch against Atlanta in the preseason opener for the Dolphins.

He caught the only pass from Matt Moore, as Miami’s starters didn’t play much. Look for him to get more playing time when Jay Cutler suits up versus the Ravens next Thursday.

Trevor Siemian was 6/7 for 51 yards in the Broncos’ first preseason game.

He threw the ball accurately, including one particularly impressive throw. Siemian appears to be in the clear lead for the starting job as the incumbent starter and someone that you know what you’re getting with. However, Paxton Lynch is expected to start the second preseason game against the 49ers next Saturday.

Austin Carr catches touchdown in first preseason game.

The productive undrafted receiver out of Northwestern had a very good debut, catching five passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was a great leaping grab in the end zone where Carr got a few feet off the ground. Carr is trying to crack the Patriots’ final roster, but it might be difficult on a team with so many great players.
