He started opposite Kelvin Benjamin and left after a couple series with most of the first-team offense. Funchess could be one of the better late-round fantasy wide receiver options in 2017.

Christian McCaffrey impresses in first NFL action.
The rookie rushed seven times for 33 yards working with the first- and second-team offense. He showed good burst and lateral agility, which was expected. McCaffrey easily got to the corner on a couple runs, too, and he will surely be more involved in the passing game once the real games begin. Carolina plays again next Saturday against Tennessee.

Greg Olsen catches one pass for 32 yards in Panthers’ preseason opener.
Olsen was wide open down the seam and Derek Anderson was able to find him for a nice gain. The veteran quickly left the game, and we’ll have to wait until the third preseason game to see him for an extended period of time.

Benjamin catches 23-yard touchdown in preseason opener.
KB finished his short time on the field with two catches for 40 yards and the score, which was a beautiful catch in the front corner of the end zone over Jonathan Joseph. Benjamin is looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2016 season, and this was a good first step.

Stewart rushed twice for four yards in Wednesday night’s preseason opener.
The veteran back started, but Christian McCaffrey quickly become involved with the first-team offense. It was the first game, though, and Cam Newton wasn’t playing, so we should get a better idea about Stewart’s role in the third preseason game.

Alfred Blue scores against the Panthers in preseason game.
Blue had five carries for 33 yards, along with a seven-yard reception working as the clear second running back for Houston. The 26-year-old running back looked very good on his runs and looks like he could be poised to again be the primary backup behind Lamar Miller this year.

Anderson was 4/5 for 76 yards and one touchdown in the preseason opener versus the Texans.
The veteran got the start with Cam Newton resting his shoulder, but he quickly gave way to Joe Webb. Anderson’s touchdown was a nice high-point throw to Kelvin Benjamin in the front corner of the end zone. He’ll back up Newton again in the regular season.
