Join now >The Chargers have traded for quarterback Cardale Jones.
Jones is the big and talented national championship winning quarterback at Ohio State that was drafted in the fourth round by the Bills last year. Buffalo will get a conditional draft pick in return for him. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was just the offensive coordinator in Buffalo last year, and he obviously had the opportunity to watch Jones up close. The team worked out Robert Griffin III today and might have decided to opt on trading for Jones instead of signing him. The 6’5″ quarterback has a cannon arm and showed major flashed in his short time at Ohio State. He has a chance to develop into the Chargers’ next in line after Philip Rivers. In Buffalo, they might like what they’ve seen from rookie Nathan Peterman, who could potentially take over for Tyrod Taylor if the contract situation doesn’t workout between him and the team.

Jordan Reed is going to see a specialist about his toe injury.
Redskins Head coach Jay Gruden just announced this, adding that there is no timetable for Reed’s return yet. Obviously, this is not great news for the Redskins’ Pro Bowl tight end, but hopefully he receives some good news from the specialist. Toe injuries can be tricky and keep players out for extended periods of time, but we’ll see. You shouldn’t be drafting until later this month, but those drafting early should select Vernon Davis as a handcuff if they are drafting Jordan Reed early.

Teddy Bridgewater has been placed on the Vikings PUP list.
Bridgewater is still getting back to 100% from his devastating knee injury about 11 months ago. Because Sam Bradford is locked in as the starter, Minnesota is going to take it slow with Teddy. This also indirectly helps avoids any controversy about who the starting quarterback should be, as some fans might clamor for Bridgewater—who has been a beloved player in Minnesota since he was drafted in 2013—despite how well Bradford played last season. Starter Sam Bradford should be locked in and ready to go, and he could have a big season if the offensive line protects him.

Tom Savage is listed as the starting quarterback on the Texans unofficial depth chart.
Expect impressive rookie Deshaun Watson to also get some time with the first team. Unofficial depth charts are…unofficial—sometimes the coaches don’t have any input at all and don’t even care about it—but it’s worth noting because it’s probably correct for this position. Savage is considered the starter, but Watson won’t make it an easy decision Bill O’Brien and company.

Redskins tight end Jordan Reed is starting training camp on the PUP list.
Reed is dealing with a toe issue, and the Redskins are probably being cautious with him. He can be taken off the PUP at any time. Health is the biggest concern with Reed, but he should put up big numbers when on the field. With DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon gone, Reed might be relied upon more by quarterback Kirk Cousins this season. Reed is currently a consensus top three tight end along with Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce.

Dalvin Cook is drawing effusive praise from the Vikings.
Albert Breer of MMQB visited Vikings camp and heard all positive things about the rookie running back from Florida State. Head coach Mike Zimmer said, like when they drafted All-American UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr in the first round in 2014, it looks like they got a “special player.” Zimmer also added the talk among Cook’s teammates is “there’s something different about this guy.” GM Rick Spielman again said he was shocked Cook was still there in the second round of the draft, and said the dynamic back from Florida State has a “unique skill set.” Breer writes that Spielman knew that “as a player, [Cook would] fit as [Adrian] Peterson’s heir.” With teammates, coaches, and the front office all noticing and praising Cook (remember, they were just teammates with future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson), it’s sure looking like the Vikings got a steal in the draft.

The Jets have claimed Lucky Whitehead off waivers.
It’s great to see Whitehead claimed after an unfortunate past couple of days that involved an arrest warrant wrongly being put out for him on a shoplifting charge, then the Cowboys cut him (he thinks because they didn’t believe he was telling the truth). Whitehead could slot right in as the Jets’ primary return man, and he could get involved on offense more than he did with the Cowboys, as the Jets have a young receiving group with spots being competed for.
