Blake Jarwin | Free Agent TE

Blake Jarwin’s torn ACL is confirmed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This was the fear last night, but the good news is it’s a “clean” tear with no other ligament damage for Jarwin. Fortunately, Jarwin just signed a nice extension earlier back in March, so he has long-term security. Jarwin will look to make a full recovery by sometime next summer, and he should be good to go for Week 1 of the 2021 season.

Marlon Mack | Free Agent RB

Marlon Mack suffered a torn Achilles.

The fear from yesterday has unfortunately been confirmed, and Mack’s season is over. Coming off his first career 1,000-yard season, Mack was in a contract year, so this is obviously just really unfortunate for the fourth-year running back. The Colts are lucky to have exceptional depth at running back, and ultra-talented rookie Jonathan Taylor is poised to carry the ball a lot for Indy over the final 15 games—he figures to be an RB1 option for the rest of the season, while Nyheim Hines should be a more consistent FLEX option moving forward. Mack will turn just 25 years old this offseason, and we wish him luck on his recovery.

Malcolm Brown | Free Agent RB

Malcolm Brown leads the backfield in 20-17 victory over Dallas.

Rookie runner Cam Akers drew the start and handled 15 touches, but Brown ended up leading the way—rushing 18 times for 79 yards and two scores with three receptions for 31 yards through the air. Overall, the 27-year-old displayed great vision and contact balance for Los Angeles, and Sean McVay is unlikely to go away from him anytime soon. Fantasy owners should view Brown as perhaps the top pickup of the week. Next up will be a road matchup versus Philadelphia.

Latavius Murray | Free Agent RB

Latavius Murray handles 15 carries in Week 1 victory.

He turned them into 48 yards against a tough Tampa Bay front, but the biggest takeaway here is that Latavius led New Orleans in carries, and it seems that Sean Payton may want to make it a point to keep his big runner involved this year. Of course, Alvin Kamara—who rushed 12 times for 16 yards and a score while also adding a 5/51/1 receiving line—could push for 20+ touches most weeks, but fantasy owners can be optimistic about standalone value for Murray to pair with his premium handcuff upside.

Tom Brady | Retired QB

Tom Brady scores three times, tosses two interceptions in Buccaneers debut.

Brady was 23-of-36 for 239 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, also adding three carries for nine yards and another score. Overall, the elite accuracy from TB12 was clearly on display from the start, but lack of chemistry had an impact, including on a miscommunication with Mike Evans for Brady’s first turnover. Still, he put up over 20 fantasy points despite the struggles in a 34-23 loss, and Brady should only get better as the season progresses. Next up will be a tremendous matchup against a very attackable Carolina secondary for Brady’s home debut in Tampa Bay.

9/14/20 - 09:09 AM ET

Raheem Mostert | Raiders RB

Raheem Mostert leads San Francisco backfield in Week 1.

Mostert carried 15 times for 56 yards and caught four passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Niners’ loss to the Cardinals. The touchdown reception was a 76-yarder on an angle route where Mostert basically went to the end zone untouched. Tevin Coleman had just four carries, but he had to deal with air quality issues in California because of his sickle cell trait, so perhaps the backfield split will be more even between Mostert, Coleman, and Jerick McKinnon moving forward. Next week against the Jets is a tough matchup, but Mostert should probably be in most fantasy lineups for Week 2.

9/14/20 - 09:08 AM ET

DeAndre Hopkins | Ravens WR

DeAndre Hopkins catches 14 passes in Cardinals debut.

Hopkins gained 151 yards on his 14 receptions, and he came up inches short of a touchdown late in the game on a catch-and-run down the right sideline. Arizona might spread the ball around more moving forward, but it’s obviously a promising sign that Hopkins received so much work to begin his Cardinals tenure. Kyler Murray probably feels comfortable throwing the ball to the All-Pro, who needs to stay in lineups next week versus Washington.
