Join now >The Patriots are waiving Brian Lewerke.
The good news for Lewerke is that he was already brought back after New England waived him earlier this summer, so the team obviously likes something in him to have him stick around up to cut day. The Michigan State product should have a pretty good chance to land on the Patriots practice squad.

The Patriots have released Jeff Thomas, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Thomas was an explosive playmaker at Miami, but character concerns caused him to go undrafted earlier this year. While he unfortunately didn’t make the team, New England liked what they saw out of him enough to keep him until final cuts, and Thomas could be a candidate for the practice squad.

Washington is waiving Steven Montez.
Montez was a major longshot to make Washington’s roster, which has Dwayne Haskins, Alex Smith, and Kyle Allen at quarterback; but the practice squad could be where the former Colorado signal-caller lands this season.

Multiple reports: Washington is releasing Trey Quinn.
This is a bit of a surprise, but the new regime probably simply feels Quinn isn’t a great fit on offense. Quinn, the 2018 “Mr. Irrelevant” as the final pick of that year’s draft, shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new team as a capable slot receiver. Perhaps Jacksonville and former Washington head coach Jay Gruden (now the Jags offensive coordinator) will be interested.

The Packers are releasing Jake Kumerow, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Kumerow was looking to make the team again and potentially earn a role on an open depth chart, but Green Bay is going with other options behind Davante Adams. The 28-year-old averaged 18.9 yards per reception on 12 grabs last season.

The Dolphins are releasing Josh Rosen.
Since being drafted tenth overall in 2018, Rosen is set to land with his third team in as many years in the league. The former UCLA star has had some tough breaks with his landing spots, but it’s surprising and might say a lot that no team made a trade for him after Miami openly put him on the trade block this summer. With Tua Tagovailoa healthy, the Dolphins are set at quarterback, which led to this move despite Miami sending a valuable draft pick to Arizona to acquire Rosen last year.

The Bears are expected to name Mitchell Trubisky as their starting quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Bears head coach Matt Nagy has said that he didn’t want to name a starter before Week 1 (for a competitive advantage), but it appears the team has let their plans slip already with still over a week to go before kickoff. This is a bit of a surprise after Chicago added former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, but it might be a very good sign and indication that Trubisky improved this offseason after getting a push from the veteran. One way or another, the Bears should get improved play from the quarterback position, and it’ll start with the former No. 2 overall pick under center when they face the Lions. Allen Robinson probably would have benefitted from Foles as the starter.
