WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Bryce Love | Free Agent RB

Washington is waving Bryce Love.

Love has been unable to get back to 100% health and flash the dynamic form he showed at Stanford, but perhaps the 2019 fourth-round pick will be able to find a long-term home with a new team. Washington has impressive second-year player Antonio Gibson leading the backfield, so this might be a plus for Love as he potentially looks to land with a team where he has a better path for a sizable role on offense. Love's talent makes him worth the risk as a low-cost acquisition in dynast leagues.

Bryce Love returned to practice for Washington.

This activates loves 21-day practice window to be activated from injured reserve; if he's not activated, he will spend the remainder of the season on IR. Washington will see how the former Stanford star looks in practice, and hopefully all goes well for the dynamic runner. He'd be an interesting late-season boost for Washington, and he's someone to keep an eye on in deeper leagues in particular.

Bryce Love (knee) has been placed on injured reserve.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera says Love is dealing with a swollen knee and that this is not a season-ender. It’s unfortunate that Love has struggled to get on the field at full strength after suffering a knee injury in his final college game, and hopefully he can get to 100% soon.

Bryce Love is inactive for Week 1.

Washington is taking things slow with Love as he continues to come back from his knee injury. The dynamic runner might not have an opportunity to make an impact this year until closer to midseason, but he's a strong dynasty-league hold.

Bryce Love (knee) has been cleared.

This was thought to be the case yesterday when Love was not placed on the PUP list. Love suffered a torn ACL during his final college game at Stanford ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he was arguably a Day 1 or Day 2 talent; it's great to hear he's been cleared and can finally get back on the field. Washington has a very crowded backfield—perhaps the deepest running back group in the league—but Love is a dynamic talent worth keeping an eye on as the season approaches.

Bryce Love is getting another knee surgery, according to multiple reports.

NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay first reported that Love needs another knee procedure, but he also reports that "Love's Combine medicals included notes that another surgery was likely." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds that the surgery is "a minor procedure aimed at speeding up the rehab from his original knee surgery." The bottom line is that it's unfortunate that Love has had to deal with this knee injury from his final game at Stanford last season, and this rookie season is basically a redshirt year for him. But Love remains a strong dynasty-league hold as a very talented runner that could make an instant impact whenever he's able to get on the field.

Bryce Love (knee) will begin the season on the PUP.

This was fully expected after Love tore his ACL in his final game at Stanford last year. The dynamic running back could play at some point late this season, but this is expected to be a redshirt type of year for him. Dynasty league owners should hold Love on their rosters, but he's off the redraft radar at the moment.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden doesn't expect Bryce Love to be on the active roster to start this season.

Gruden says the rookie running back still has a ways to go in his recovery from the ACL tear suffered in his final game at Stanford last year, and it sounds like he's going to start the season on the PUP list, which would force him to miss the first six games of the regular season. With an excellent group of running backs, Washington can afford to be patient with the former Heisman Trophy finalist, and that's the smart course of action for his long-term health. Love remains a must-hold in dynasty leagues because of his dynamic ability, but there's a chance he doesn't deliver any re-draft value in 2019.

The Redskins have selected Stanford running back Bryce Love with the No. 112 pick (fourth round) in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Love rushed for 2,118 yards and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2017, and he likely would have been in the discussion for a first-round pick last year had he left school after his junior season. As a senior, Love battled injuries and averaged 4.5 yards per carry (compared to 8.1 during his exceptional junior season), rushing for 739 yards in ten games, but he tore his ACL in the final game, leading to a bigger dip in his draft stock. In addition to the knee injury, Love also battled ankle injuries throughout his college career, including during the 2017 Heisman finalist campaign, so durability is a definite concern as he enters the league. But with blazing speed and unquestioned toughness, Love should at least be a very good change-of-pace option for the Redskins, and he should eventually form an excellent one-two punch with Derrius Guice. Love’s dynasty value is definitely higher than his 2019 redraft value.
