Fake news alert: Ravens deny ESPN report regarding Colin Kaepernick.
ESPN's Dianna Russini put out a report earlier today that Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and GM Ozzie Newsome want to sign Kaepernick, but have "met resistance" from owner Steve Bisciotti. The Ravens put out a statement by Newsome in response to the report: "We are going through a process, and have not made a decision. Steve Bisciotti has not told us we cannot sign Colin Kaepernick, nor has he blocked the move. Whoever is making these claims is wrong." It's not a surprise ESPN has put out fake news regarding the situation, considering some of their so-called journalists have been vocal in demanding a team sign Kaepernick, and the company has clearly moved far away from fair and balanced coverage over the last few years.
According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti has resisted signing Colin Kaepernick.
Russini tweeted "Ravens HC John Harbaugh & GM Ozzie Newsome support signing Colin Kaepernick, but have met resistance from owner Steve Bisciotti per sources". Bisciotti already said at a fan forum a few days ago that he did not like Kaepernick's protest last season, adding that he wasn't sure Kaepernick could help the team. Bisciotti owns the team, so he can do what he wants. Colin Kaepernick was free to protest last year, and NFL owners are also free to not employ him.
The Ravens are "weighing" a decision about Colin Kaepernick.
The team's president Dick Cass said they have had "direct conversations" with Kaepernick, according to Jeff Zrebiec. Team owner Steve Bisciotti said he didn't like Kaepernick's national anthem protest, while adding he isn't sure the quarterback could help them win games. The team owner not being a fan makes it highly unlikely the Ravens sign the controversial quarterback.
John Harbaugh said "we'll see what happens" with free agent Colin Kaepernick.
The Ravens head coach made it clear it's "only speculation right now" that the team will sign Kaepernick with Joe Flacco dealing with a back injury that will keep him out of practice for a week. Harbaugh, who of course knows Kaepernick through his brother Jim, said he's talked to Kaepernick and says "he's a guy right now that's being talked about." The Ravens might be Kaepernick's only chance to get back into the NFL, but we wouldn't count on it.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll talks up Kaepernick, but the team won't sign him at this time.
Carroll said Kaepernick is "capable of being a championship guy" and is a starter in the league, but they're not doing anything "at this time." Mike Garafolo is reporting that Kaepernick wants more money than they are offering; if true, then Kaepernick must not care that much about actually playing. It's hard to see a team signing Kaepnerick.
Adam Schefter reports nothing is "imminent" with a quarterback signing for Seattle.
Schefter says a move is not expected today and that it's a "standard visit." The Seahawks are the best (and maybe only) possibility for Kaepernick, but it's no lock to happen.
The Seahawks are working out free agent quarterback Colin Kaepnerick, according to Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport also says at least one other quarterback is visiting the team. Seattle is probably the only realistic destination for Kaepernick. Word on how his visit goes should be out at some point today.
The Seahawks are interested in Colin Kaepernick as a backup quarterback option, according to Sheil Kapadia.
Head coach Pete Carroll was on the radio this morning and said "We're looking at everybody" when asked specificially about Kaepnerick and Robert Griffin III. Kaepernick, of course, was a long-time rival of the Seahawks over the past several years with the 49ers, and is still without a team following his national anthem antics from last year. If there is a locker room that would welcome Kaepnerick, it would probably be Seattle's. From an on-field perspective, RGIII is the better player. It's possible Kaepernick never sets foot on an NFL field again.
49ers GM John Lynch said that Colin Kaepernick almost signed with another team last week.
Apparently, it fell through. Teams are very likely scared to sign Kaepernick after his national anthem protest last season. He likely would have a backup job by now if it wasn't for the protest.
Colin Kaepernick is going to opt officially out of his contract today, according to Adam Schefter.
Kaepernick will hit the free agent market, but we'll see if any teams want to sign him. He or his team did put a report out there that Kaepernick will be standing for the national anthem next season after he kneeled all of last season. We didn't think anyone would want to sign Kaepernick because of his anthem protest, but the report might get some teams willing to bring him on their team.
Colin Kaepernick will opt out of his contract with the 49ers, according to Ian Rapoport.
He could always re-sign with the 49ers, which seems like his best option for staying in the NFL. We could be wrong, but he might be hard pressed to find another team that wants to sign him. Not many NFL owners will want their team to sign Kaepernick, especially because his play on the field is not what it used to be—his stats last were inflated big time by Chip Kelly's offense that got guys open for Kaepernick, but Kaepernick missed many throws throughout the season.
Colin Kaepernick plays likely his last NFL game.
Kaepernick was 17/22 for 215 yards and a touchdown against Seattle. It was probably his best game of the season in terms of throwing the ball accurately. He finishes the season with 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 59.2% completion percentage, with 69 carries for 468 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. He also had nine fumbles (three lost). With Kaepernick almost certainly done in San Francisco, he will likely struggle to find another job. Not many owners are going to sign off on signing someone that has caused controversy all season.
49ers get second win of the season with comeback over the Rams.
Colin Kaepernick was 28/38 for 266 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a rushing touchdown. Obviously the whole team was happy with a win on Christmas Eve, but the downside is they now drop back to the number two draft slot after they were number one for a few hours after the Browns' win over the Chargers. The 49ers went for two after they scored with under a minute to go in the game, and Kaepernick scrambled and ran it in to convert the conversion and put San Francisco ahead, 22-21. It's likely Kaepernick's last big play in his career, as no one is going to want to sign this head case when he likely becomes a free agent this offseason.
Colin Kaepernick throws two touchdowns in Niners loss.
Kaepernick was 20/33 for 183 yards and two touchdowns, with three carries for 21 yards against the Falcons. Kaepernick made some great throws in the game, but also some poor ones like usual. With Christian Ponder activated in favor of Blaine Gabbert for the first time this season, it's fair to wonder whether Ponder could get some time in the last two games of the season.
Colin Kaepernick struggles with accuracy after a good start.
Kaepernick started the game 6/6 and was accurate on his throws, but it went downhill from there. He finished 15/26 for 133 yards and one touchdown. The TD came on a short pass to Carlos Hyde who powered into the endzone for six. Kaepernick won't be back as the Niners starter next season, but will likely finish out these last three games.
Kaepernick struggles mightily; is benched.
He was 1/5 for four yards. He also had 20 yards on six carries and was sacked five times. Kaepernick just is not Chip Kelly's style of quarterback, despite what many pundits say. His wild inaccuracy (an wild outlook on life) will make it very hard for Kaepernick to find a starting job this offseason. You probably shouldn't even want him on your fantasy team.
Colin Kaepernick leads 49ers in rushing in Week 12 loss to Dolphins.
Kaepernick was 29/46 for 296 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also had 10 carries for 113 yards. The day could've been even better. There were a few dropped passes and Kaepernick was lit up by Kiko Alonso on 4th-and-goal when the 49ers had a chance to tie the game. It looked like Kaepernick had Carlos Hyde if he would have dumped it to him in the endzone, but Kaepernick tried to run it in and was unsuccessful. If you're comfortable playing Kaepernick on your fantasy team, he's a QB1 in Chip Kelly's offense, but be careful of playing with fire (Kaepernick is not very accurate, which is not good).
Colin Kaepernick misses some throws, takes five sacks in 49ers loss to the Pats.
Kaepernick was 16/30 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 32 rush yards on four carries. Kaepernick missed some open throws, and while he’s putting up pretty good numbers, he’s likely not going to be Chip Kelly’s quarterback in 2017. He’s just too inaccurate. He’s a good fantasy option at the moment, however. He’s worth a shot in your lineup this week against Miami if you need a QB.
Colin Kaepernick uses his legs; Niners almost upset Cardinals.
Kaepnernick was 17/30 for 210 yards and one touchdown, adding 55 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushes. It was Kaepnerick's best game of the season, but it wasn't good enough to lock down the starting job. San Francisco has no chance of almost upsetting the Patriots this Sunday. Kaepernick belongs on the waiver wire.
