Dalton Keene | Patriots TE

The Patriots placed Dalton Keene on injured reserve.

[UPDATE: Keene had knee surgery and is expected to be ready for 2022.] Keene had been on the PUP list, but he’s been moved to injured reserve. The versatile tight end might ultimately be moved at some point after the Patriots aggressively added to the position this offseason by signing Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.

The Patriots are placing Dalton Keene (knee) on injured reserve, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Keene is the second rookie tight end for New England to land on IR (following Devin Asiasi), and it's unfortunate that we simply haven't really gotten to see the duo on the field this year. The Patriots will continue to be heavily reliant on the running backs and wide receivers down the stretch.

The Patriots have selected Virginia Tech tight end Dalton Keene with the No. 101 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Keane is more of a physical tight end compared to vertical seam-stretcher Devin Asiasi that New England also drafted in the third round. Bill Belichick seems to be clearly be building around Jarrett Stidham at this point, and the weapons (N’Keal Harry being the other notable youngster) should be able to grow together. The landing spot for Keane makes him squarely in play as a quality option in dynasty leagues, but significant redraft value is unlikely in 2020.
