Join now >The Bills have traded quarterback A.J. McCarron to the Raiders, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Jon Gruden has not been shy about expressing frustration with his backup quarterback situation, so the Raiders went ahead and traded for McCarron to hopefully sure-up that spot. This means Buffalo’s starting quarterback is down to rookie Josh Allen and second-year quarterback Nathan Peterman. Allen offers the most fantasy upside because of his rushing upside, but Peterman might be the starter to open the year against a tough schedule.

Carson Wentz (knee) is not expected to start the season opener.
The last thing the Eagles want is to have their franchise quarterback not be the same after injuring his knee last season, so the smart move is to play Nick Foles until Wentz is 100% cleared and ready to go. We don’t recommend knocking Wentz down the quarterback rankings too much, if at all, because of this news, as he could be ready to go in Week 2—and there are plenty of quarterbacks to stream in Week 1 or for however long Wentz is out.

The Eagles plan to start Nick Foles to open the season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Philadelphia is making the smart move by not rushing their franchise quarterback Carson Wentz as he recovers from a serious knee injury. This has been the expectation after Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he planned to make a quarterback decision by yesterday, as Wentz simply hasn’t been fully cleared by team doctors yet. Wentz is close to a return, but there’s no guarantee he’s ready for Week 2, either.

Brent Celek has officially retired from the NFL.
It’s been known for a bit now that the long-time Eagles tight end was going to retire, but he made it official this morning with an announcement and a letter to the fans. Celek says he’s “very much at peace with this decision,” which isn’t a surprise considering he had a very solid career that he was able to spend with one team, culminating in a Super Bowl victory in his last game. Celek caught 398 passes for 4,998 yards and 31 touchdowns in 11 NFL seasons, and he also became one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL particularly in the last few years of his career. We wish Celek luck in his post-playing life.

Jerick McKinnon suffered an injury in practice today, according to NFL Network.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says McKinnon “suffered what appeared to be a concerning injury during a team workout,” so this obviously doesn’t sound great. Hopefully it’s just a re-aggravation of his calf injury—which could be a multi-week injury—and not something worse like a knee injury, but we’ll update you as more information becomes available. McKinnon’s personal health is more important obviously, but hopefully you haven’t had your fantasy draft yet so that more clarity can be given on the Niners backfield situation before you do draft.

The Jets fear Jermaine Kearse will miss the season opener, according to Manish Mehta of the Daily News.
Mehta says Kearse recently underwent a procedure on his injured abdomen that will likely cause him to miss the opener on Monday, September 10 against the Lions. If Kearse is out, the top-three receivers for the Jets would be more clear with Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, and Terrelle Pryor likely to be the starting trio. Perhaps Kearse will surprise and be ready to go for Week 1, but expect him to miss at least one game—and potentially more—for now.

The Steelers waived quarterback Landry Jones.
Jones was expected to be locked in as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 quarterback, so this is surprising. Second-year quarterback Joshua Dobbs and rookie Mason Rudolph both played well in the preseason, though, and the Steelers probably didn’t want to lose either of them on waivers. Perhaps the Steelers would revisit bringing back Jones if something happens to Ben Roethilsberger.
