Join now >The Eagles waived quarterback Joe Callahan.
It was a cool opportunity for the New Jersey native Callahan to get to play for his local professional football team this season, but he had an uphill battle to make the final roster with Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, and Nate Sudfeld all in Philadelphia. Callahan threw a game-winning touchdown last night, so at least he went out on a great note. The former Packer and Saint will draw interest elsewhere.

Update: A.J. McCarron (shoulder) is day-to-day.
It’s not a hairline fracture in McCarron’s collarbone, and it’s apparently any other serious injury with his shoulder, so he could return to practice soon. Given McCarron has been waiting for this opportunity to start since he’s entered the NFL, he’d probably going to tough it out as soon as possible. McCarron probably needs to play in the team’s third preseason game this Sunday if he’s going to be the team’s starter.

Griff Whalen left last night’s preseason game with a toe injury.
Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal says the X-Rays were negative, so hopefully the injury isn’t anything serious. Whalen was in a walking boot after the game, but it could have been precautionary. And MRI might be the next step of the injury evaluation.

A.J. McCarron did not suffer a fracture in his collarbone, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The initial reports said it was a hairline fracture in McCarron’s collarbone suffered in last week’s preseason game, but that’s apparently not the case after further testing. Now we need to wait for more news to come out on the extent of McCarron’s injury, but for now consider him week-to-week. With Josh Allen announced as the starter for Buffalo’s third preseason game, the injury unfortunately might have forced McCarron out of the quarterback competition, especially with Allen impressing through two preseason games.

The Seahawks waived wide receiver Tanner McEvoy, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The third-year receiver spent his first two seasons with Seattle, working as a big situational deep threat for Russell Wilson. The Seahawks added pieces to the receiving group this year—including Marcus Johnson, who has impressed this preseason, and veteran Brandon Marshall—which made it tougher for McEvoy as he looked to make the final roster. The six-foot-six target will likely get another opportunity soon.

Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates: Sam Darnold is “progressing extremely fast.”
Bates talked about “how easy the game is” for the rookie quarterback, adding that the team has not held anything back from Darnold, who has “owned the playbook.” After playing very well through two preseason games and impressing in practice, Darnold is handling most of the first-team reps for the Jets. Right now, despite the presence of Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown, Darnold is the heavy favorite to start Week 1 for the Jets.

Ty Montgomery’s foot injury is not believed to be serious.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said the belief is the injury is nothing serious. However, there could be more testing on the way. Montgomery and Aaron Jones played last night while Jamaal Williams received starter treatment by sitting along with Aaron Rodgers and the starting offense, but Montgomery is still very likely to mix in on offense if he’s healthy to open the year.
