Join now >DeVonta Smith (knee) will take team reps in practice today.
Smith is making great progress from his MCL sprain, advancing from individual drills to team participation. If we don’t see him for this Thursday’s preseason game against the Patriots, we’d at least expect to see him for the Eagles’ third and final preseason game. Barring a setback, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will be ready to go for Week 1.

The Giants released Alfred Morris.
Morris was just recently signed by the Giants, but he’s part of the initial roster cuts. The veteran running back’s familiarity with the Giants could potentially lead him back to the team down the line, though.

The Chiefs waived/injured Antonio Callaway.
NFL rosters need to be cut to 85 players today, and Callaway is part of the Chiefs’ moves and would revert to the team’s injured reserve if he goes unclaimed. There will likely be squads out there that will want to take a chance on the talented Florida product at some point.

The Jaguars have released Tim Tebow.
Tebow released a statement, reading in part: “Thankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks. I’ve never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I’m grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream…” before thanking the Jaguars organization for the opportunity and praising God. There’ll be plenty of haters celebrating this release, but give Tebow credit for trying something new in a transition to tight end. This probably spells the end of Tebow’s football career. He might not have had a ton of success in the NFL, but he won a Heisman Trophy and two national championships at Florida as one of the greatest college athletes in history; and he led the Broncos to an upset postseason victory over the Steelers. He might have done more as a quarterback in the NFL if the Broncos didn’t understandable sign future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning as a free agent to take his starting job. We expect Tebow will be successful in whatever he does next.

Anthony Miller (shoulder) is expected to return for Week 1 or 2.
Aaron Wilson reports that Wilson’s separated shoulder has no structural damage and that he could return for the first week or two of the regular season. So Miller sounds like he won’t be playing any more this preseason, which is not surprising after he was carted off with the shoulder injury over the weekend. Miller will likely go undrafted in most fantasy drafts.

Allen Hurns is getting wrist surgery.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Hurns is expected to miss three months after surgery, so we are looking at a potential mid-November return for the veteran receiver. He’ll almost certainly be headed to injured reserve. This is tough news for a guy that’s battled injuries in the past, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

The Browns placed Ryan Switzer (foot) on injured reserve.
This early in the year, Switzer’s situation might be one where he’s released from injured reserve at some point so he can sign with another team. Switzer is off the re-draft radar and does not need to be held in standard-sized dynasty leagues.
