Markus Wheaton | Free Agent WR

Markus Wheaton (finger) was a limited participant in practice today.

Wheaton is working his way back from his broken finger and presumably is not 100% yet. We’ll see if he can get in a full practice tomorrow.

Kerwynn Williams | Saints RB

Kerwynn Williams will start at running back for the Cardinals.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians came right out and addressed the situation, saying Williams will start with Andre Ellington playing behind him and Chris Johnson getting some carries too. This will be a committee, but Williams might be able to carve out a solid amount of touches within it. David Johnson was expected to get about 30 touches per game this season, so Williams, Ellington, and Chris Johnson will likely combine for about that much. Williams might get around 15 carries per game, with Ellington working mostly in passing situations, and CJ working in for work behind them both. The best bet for fantasy production is Williams, and he’s a FLEX option in Week 2 against the Colts.

Josh Doctson | Free Agent WR

Josh Doctson (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice today.

The second-year receiver has had trouble staying healthy, which must be part of why the team didn’t play him much at all in Week 1. Hopefully the talented 24-year-old is able to get a full practice in tomorrow and Friday so he can have a better chance of making an impact in Week 2.

Dede Westbrook | Free Agent WR

Dede Westbrook underwent core muscle surgery, the Jaguars announced.

This isn’t a surprise, considering Westbrook was placed on IR after apparently worsening his injury in the team’s fourth preseason game. The talented rookie is set to be out until Week 9 if he is designated to return off IR, but it’s certainly possible Westbrook is out longer. When he does return, he could have a big role with Allen Robinson done for the year with a torn ACL. Westbrook probably isn’t worth a bench spot in standard 10- or 12-team leagues, though, unless you have an IR spot and want to put him there.

Joe Mixon | Texans RB

Bengals HC Marvin Lewis says Joe Mixon is “way better than I expected.”

Lewis was on a conference call with Texans reporters in advance of the upcoming Bengals-Texans Thursday night matchup and had high praise for his rookie back. According to ProFootballTalk, Lewis said “as a football player, he’s excellent and as a young man, I’m really impressed with him and just the way he carries himself and does things,” while going on to say Mixon is a “good, upbeat, positive young man” that’s a “great worker.” It’s good to hear the rookie back is making a good impression as a person, because we know how good he is on the field. Despite the terrible incident he had as a freshman at Oklahoma when he hit a woman, it sounds like Mixon might have grown into a mature person. On the field, it’s only a matter of time before he’s the lead guy in Cincinnati.

Ryan Griffin | Free Agent TE

Texans TE Ryan Griffin (concussion) will not play in Week 2.

The Texans have four guys with concussions, and they’ve all been ruled out for tomorrow night’s game against the Bengals. Fellow tight end Stephen Anderson is also out with a concussion, and starter C.J. Fiedorowicz is on IR with his concussion. The Texans have to call up Evan Baylis from the practice squad, and they’ll probably sign (or trade for) someone for tomorrow night’s game as well. This is less than ideal for rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson’s first start.

9/13/17 - 02:11 PM ET

Bruce Ellington | Free Agent WR

Bruce Ellington (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 2.

There just isn’t enough time to get ready for a Thursday night game tomorrow against the Bengals, and the Texans decided to just play it safe and rule out the guys with concussions. Ellington will try to get ready for Week 3 in about a week and a half. DeAndre Hopkins is in line for a ton of targets against the Bengals.
