Join now >Rookie Mitchell Trubisky excites in his preseason debut for Chicago.
The second overall pick in the draft was 18/25 for 166 yards and a touchdown, along with three carries for 38 yards. Trubisky looked very calm and poised out there, avoiding mistakes and making good throws throughout his time in the game. He flashed big-time arm talent on a few of his throws, putting passes right on the money with great velocity. Mike Glennon was paid to be the starter, and the Bears have said he will be the starter this season, but he did struggle in his limited action (though it was against the Broncos’ vaunted defense). We’ll see if Trubisky, who is currently on the third team, will be elevated and get some time with the second team and/or starters.

Jordan Matthews is week to week with a chip in his sternum.
Obviously, this isn’t great for the Bills after they just acquired Matthews late last week to take over as their number one receiver after they simultaneously traded Sammy Watkins to the Rams. With the regular season opener just a few weeks away, hopefully heals up and can be out there for Week 1. In the meantime, Andre Holmes might now step up as the team’s number one receiver, though Anquan Boldin or rookie Zay Jones might also fill that role with Matthews out. Despite the injury, J-Matt is still worth a mid-late round fantasy pick as a number one receiver.

Adam Shaheen catches one pass for three yards in preseason debut.
The big rookie tight end only had one reception, but he certainly looks the part out there. Look for him to work his way into the starting lineup at some point this year.

Victor Cruz scores, plays late into Bears preseason game.
Kendall Wright got the start in the slot, and Cruz played into the fourth quarter of the game, playing with rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Cruz did catch a Trubisky’s first-career preseason NFL preseason touchdown, and had three catches for 11 yards. Cruz might be on the roster bubble if Kendall Wright is the clear lead guy in the slot.

Still got it: Gates catches touchdown in preseason opener.
He caught two passes for 10 yards, including a five-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers. Entering his 15th season, Gates still knows how to score, and his fantasy value will likely be determined on how many times he can find the end zone in the regular season. Hunter Henry is expected to be used more than Gates, but both will be on the field.

Cody Hollister leads Pats in receiving in Week 1 o the preseason.
Hollister had seven catches for 116 yards, including a 38-yard reception. It’d be quite the accomplishment to make the final roster for New England, but he’s doing well so far and could be a practice squad guy in his first year.

Deonte Thompson leads Bears in receiving in Week 1 of the preseason.
Thompson had five catches for 64 yards, including a long of 24 yards. It’s a good preseason game for Thompson, who is looking to make the Bears’ final roster in a deep receiving group.
