Join now >Cody Kessler was 5/10 for 47 yards in the Browns’ preseason opener.
Kessler was given the least amount of time out of the three quarterbacks competing for the starting job, but he played well, with the highlight being a 31-yard strike to Josh Boyce down the seam. We still like Kessler better than the other quarterbacks on Cleveland’s roster, but it seems like Hue Jackson wants DeShone Kizer to win the job. If he gets a chance to start against the Giants on MNF next game, Kessler needs to make the most of his opportunity.

Jamaal Williams carries four times for 14 yards in preseason game against the Eagles.
The Packers didn’t really run the ball last night, but Williams appears to be the clear lead backup behind Ty Montgomery. He looked good in his limited action, and the rookie back will get some first-team reps over the next couple of preseason games.

Ty Montgomery loses fumble in first preseason game.
The Packers starter had three carries for no yards and one reception for eight yards with the fumble. Obviously, the fumble is less than ideal, but he was the clear lead back for Green Bay in the game before exiting. Montgomery’s fantasy value shouldn’t be impact by the turnover. He and the Packers face Washington next Saturday.

Kizer throws game-winning touchdown in first NFL action.
Playing behind Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler, the rookie had the whole second half to himself and was 11/18 for 184 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed three times for 12 yards. Kizer couldn’t get the offense moving in the third quarter, but he was able to connect on a couple deep passes, including the 45-yard game-winner. He also had a 52-yard pass that was just inches from another score because it was slightly underthrown. Given a full half to work with, it seems like Hue Jackson has every intention of building Kizer up to be the Week 1 starter. We’ll see who gets the start on Monday Night Football versus the Giants in the next preseason game.

Taysom Hill throws touchdown in preseason opener.
The rookie quarterback from BYU was the third quarterback to enter for Green Bay, behind Brett Hundley and Joe Callahan, but he played well. Hill was 4/5 for 69 yards and a touchdown, along with two carries for 14 yards. He’s a talented player and is someone Green Bay will likely want to try and get through to the practice squad.

Brett Hundley plays well in preseason game against Philadelphia.
Hundley was 8/15 for 90 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The interception came on a play where he just didn’t see linebacker Mychal Kendricks—and Kendricks made a very nice play to pick the ball off. On the touchdown, he showed perfect touch on a 20-yard ball to the end zone. Hundley will be the backup to Aaron Rodgers this season.
8/11/17 - 10:00 AM ET
Joe Callahan was 10/16 for 103 yards in Week 1 of the preseason for Green Bay.
He also added an 11-yard carry. Callahan showed off his great arm talent in the game and avoided mistakes. He probably should have had a deep touchdown pass, but there what certainly looked like pass interference but wasn’t called. Look for Callahan to remain on Green Bay’s roster to start the season, as Mike McCarthy and the team like him.
