The Browns have released Demetrius Harris.

Some clubs have started to release players over the past several days, and Harris will now be free to sign with any team ahead of free agency next month. Turning 29 in the summer, Harris shouldn’t have a problem finding a new home, but it will be likely be as the No. 2 or No. 3 tight end.

The Redskins are releasing Paul Richardson, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Richardson signed a big five-year, $40 million contract with the Redskins in 2018, but he unfortunately had some trouble staying healthy in Washington. The new regime has decided its best to just move on, and this is probably a positive for Richardson, as the speedy receiver will have an opportunity to sign with a new team immediately instead of waiting for a wave of players to hit the open market next month. The former second-round pick of the Seahawks will turn just 28 years old this offseason.

The Jets signed Daniel Brown to a new contract.

Brown started five games for the Jets last season, appearing in all 16 total. He can chip in on offense and is also a key special teams player, but there are likely to be stronger options at tight end toward the end of 2020 fantasy drafts.

Diontae Johnson had sports hernia surgery.

This surgery could potentially put offseason training in jeopardy for Johnson, but he should be 100% ready to go for the start of training camp at the latest. The second-year receiver had a promising first year in the NFL and will look to take a step forward with Ben Roethlisberger under center in 2020.

The Titans signed tight end Anthony Firkser to a contract extension.

It’s a one-year deal that keeps Firkser, who was set to become an exclusive rights free agent next month, in Tennessee for the 2020 season. Firkser had two touchdowns in the postseason, so the former undrafted free agent is someone to keep an eye on moving forward as he continues to develop.

The Chargers have officially parted ways with Philip Rivers.

This had been fully expected, and the longtime San Diego/Los Angeles starter will officially be on a new team if he does indeed continue his career in 2020 as expected. Rivers leads the Chargers franchise in passing touchdowns (397) and passing yardage (59,271). In a mutual statement, Rivers said in part: “I never took for granted the opportunity to lead this team out on to the field for 235 games. We had a lot of great moments, beginning in San Diego and then finishing in LA. I wish my teammates and coaches nothing but the best moving forward.” Rivers started 224 consecutive games for the Chargers, and it’ll be weird when he is not out there under center for the franchise this fall. The Buccaneers figure to be the team that might have the most interest in the veteran quarterback in free agency, but we’ll see.

Garrett Celek has retired from the NFL.

Celek dealt with a back injury during the 2019 season, so he unfortunately was unable to be a big contributor as the 49ers made a run to Super Bowl LIV; but the 31-year-old did well to be able to play his entire eight-year career with one franchise, especially as an undrafted player in 2012. The tight end’s career ends with 82 receptions for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. We wish him the best of luck moving forward. Interestingly, his brother and fellow former NFL tight end Brent Celek just took a job as a personnel man with the Eagles, so perhaps the front office could be a direction Garrett also looks toward.
