WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

The Lions released Paul Perkins.

The Lions are going in another direction at running back, promoting Bo Scarbrough from the practice squad. Perkins was cut and then brought back by Detroit earlier this season, so that could certainly happen again. He does not need to be held in fantasy leagues, though.

The Lions promoted Paul Perkins to the active roster.

Perkins is taking the roster spot of Tra Carson, who is now on injured reserve with his hamstring injury. Perkins joins Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic in a committee backfield, and none can be trusted as more than FLEX options in fantasy lineups for now.

The Lions signed Paul Perkins to the practice squad.

Perkins was recently released, but he's back with Detroit on the practice squad. The Lions have a committee backfield at the moment, and Perkins might work his way back onto the active roster and a game-day role soon; but he's not a recommended fantasy hold at the moment.

The Lions promoted Paul Perkins to the active roster.

An additional signing to Detroit's backfield is possible, but for now it appears the Lions are poised to go with a committee with Ty Johnson, J.D. McKissic, and Perkins this week against the Giants. Perkins will be facing his former team, so perhaps there'll be some extra motivation for him.

The Lions waived Paul Perkins.

Perkins did not receive a touch before getting waived by Detroit. The former Giants running back shouldn't have much trouble finding a new team at some point this season.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

The Lions have claimed Paul Perkins off waivers.

Perkins was waived by the Giants yesterday, but he quickly finds a new home in Detroit. The UCLA product isn't a recommended fantasy pickup, but he might get some work behind Kerryon Johnson when he gets a grasp of the offense.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

The Giants have waived running back Paul Perkins.

A fifth-round pick out of UCLA in 2016, Perkins was waived with a non-football injury after he underwent surgery for a pectoral injury suffered before the team's offseason conditioning programs began. It's a significant fall for a guy that many claimed as a breakout candidate when he opened the 2017 season as the starter for New York, but the high expectations were probably unfair to begin with, and he rushed for just 90 yards on 41 carries last year. Now, Perkins will focus on getting healthy and earning a backup role somewhere. He is assured of another opportunity at just 23 years old, but Perkins is unlikely to turn into a fantasy contributor in 2018.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins handles four touches in Week 17 win.

Perkins rushed three times for seven yards and caught an 11-yard pass. A starter to begin 2017, Perkins will probably have his work cut out for him to make the Giants next summer after averaging just 2.2 yards per carry on 41 attempts this season. It was quickly clear that Wayne Gallman, Shane Vereen, and Orleans Darkwa were all better options than the former fifth-round pick, and there's probably a good chance he's elsewhere in 2018 with Ben McAdoo gone.

Paul Perkins gets three carries in Week 13.

Perkins had been mainly relegated to the bench in recent weeks, but he got some work against the Raiders and picked up 12 yards on his three attempts. He's not a fantasy option at the moment.

Paul Perkins (ribs) was a full participant in today's practice.

Perkins appears to be 100% after the Giants' bye week. It's unclear if he'll even be active against the Rams, though, as Orleans Darkwa, Wayne Gallman, and Shane Vereen are the main guys in the backfield now. Perkins might need to contribute on special teams to be active again, but we'll see.

Paul Perkins (ribs) is out for Week 7.

Perkins was actually ruled out before the weekend. Orleans Darkwa will handle most of the work in the backfield for the Giants, but rookie Wayne Gallman should mix in for a good amount of work too.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins (ribs) was a limited participant in practice.

A full participation would be ideal for his return, but it's been two straight days of practice for Perkins nonetheless. The Giants will release the official injury report for the game sometime tomorrow.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins (ribs) was limited in practice today.

He didn't practice all week last week, so he's definitely headed in the right direction. Perkins probably shouldn't be on fantasy rosters right now, though.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins (ribs) has been ruled out for Sunday night.

Perkins is still dealing with his rib injury from a couple weeks ago. Orleans Darkwa and rookie Wayne Gallman will carry most of the rushing load, with Shane Vereen working in on passing downs versus Denver.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins (ribs) did not practice today.

Perkins doesn't look like he's going to play on Sunday, but maybe he'll get out there for practice tomorrow and push to play. He is pretty much off the fantasy radar now anyway after the emergence of rookie Wayne Gallman.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins (ribs) is out for Week 5.

Perkins wasn't able to practice this week and Giants head coach Ben McAdoo ruled him out. This might mean rookie Wayne Gallman—who was very impressive last week—will start for the Giants and play a lot. But Orleans Darkwa (back) is also in the mix. Perkins will try to get healthy for next Sunday night against the Broncos in Week 6.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins was limited in practice today.

Perkins is dealing with a rib injury, but it's a good sign he was at least able to get limited work in at practice. Rookie Wayne Gallman should probably be the starter now.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins gets 11 touches in Week 3 loss.

Perkins had nine carries for 22 yards and two receptions for eight yards. It looks like he could be losing his grip on the starting job, but Perkins was not to be trusted in fantasy lineups anyway. We'll see how much playing time he gets in Week 4 against Tampa Bay.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins doesn't do much in Week 2.

The Giants could not get much going on the ground against the Lions, and Perkins had only ten yards on seven carries while adding 12 receiving yards on two receptions. Playing from behind didn't help, but the Giants probably want to be more committed to the running game than that. Still, Perkins could only muster a long of four yards on his seven attempts. Perkins and the Giants play the Eagles in Week 3.

Paul Perkins gets the start; handles nine touches in season opener.

Perkins rushed seven times for 16 yards and caught two passes for nine yards in a 19-3 loss to the Cowboys. New York seems committed to Perkins as the starter, but we're not sure why they wouldn't give rookie Wayne Gallman a shot (he was a healthy inactive). Perhaps that will change after last night's poor offensive performance, but it's unlikely. Perkins is no more than a weak, opportunity-based FLEX play next week against Detroit.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins plays well in Giants' third preseason game.

Perkins carried six times for 33 yards against the Jets, including a long of 15 yards. He should be done for the preseason, as the focus shifts to Week 1 against the Cowboys. It's difficult to get very excited about Perkins' fantasy value, but he is playing in a potentially explosive offense and is going in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Giants struggle to run the ball in exhibition against Cleveland.

Paul Perkins carried six times for ten yards in the Week 2 preseason game. He did have a nice run of 16 yards, so he had -6 yards on his other five carries. Perkins also had a two-yard reception. Despite being a potential three-down back, it's difficult to get that excited about Perkins' fantasy value. He is going outside of the top 25 running backs, though.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Giants.com writer John Schmeelk believes Paul Perkins will make a "huge jump in production" this season.

Schmeelk "would be surprised" if Perkins did not rush for over 1,000 yards and at least five touchdowns as the lead back in the Giants offense. Fellow writer Lance Medow also believes that Perkins will be the clear number one back and make a big jump in his second season. The talk from the spring has been that Perkins will be a three-down back, which would be great for his fantasy value. Rookie Wayne Gallman might be able to force his way onto the field more than anticipated, but Perkins is looking like a solid RB2 as of now.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

The Giants are very happy with second-year running back Paul Perkins.

RB coach Craig Johnson said he showed as a rookie that he can run and catch out of the backfield, but that this spring he's shown he can protect the quarterback "held up very good in protection" when they tested him so far. Head coach Ben McAdoo already made it clear earlier in the offseason that Perkins is the clear starter, and is looks like that's going to be the case this season. Coach Johnson did admit "it's still a long way from today to the opening game," but that Perkins is showing he can handle the lead role. Perkins looks like he'll be at least a solid RB2/FLEX to start the season.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said today that Paul Perkins will be the starting running back for the Giants.

The Giants drafted Wayne Gallman in the fourth round of the draft, but the second-year back Perkins will be the starter to open the season. In a potentially dynamic offense, Perkins should open the year as an RB2, but Shane Vereen is sure to mix in on passing downs, limiting his value some.

Paul Perkins had 10 carries for 30 yards in playoff loss to Green Bay.

Perkins also added three receptions for 27 yards. Perkins took over the lead role in the Giants backfield very late in the season, and there is a chance he returns as the lead back for the 2017 season. If the Giants don't bring in any more backs, Perkins would have good upside in fantasy drafts.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins rushed 21 times for 102 yards in Sunday's win over the Redskins.

The rookie was easily the most effective member of the NYG backfield, and they finally seem to have realized he should get the most carries as they head into the postseason. Rashad Jennings still saw 18 carries, but the Giants would be wise to give Perkins all he can handle in the playoffs. Perkins finishes the regular season with 112 carries for 456 yards (4.1 YPC).

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins takes over lead role in Giants backfield.

Perkins had 15 carries for 68 yards against the Eagles, compared to nine carries for Rashad Jennings. Perkins also had a catch for nine yards. He looked pretty good on his carries, but seemed to not read his blocking correctly at times, particularly in the second level of the defense. Perkins will be a FLEX option next week against the Redskins.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins rushed 11 times for 56 yards in Sunday's win over the Lions.

Perkins was clearly the most effective runner for the Giants, but Rashad Jennings still saw 18 carries. New York should give the rookie the most work as they try to get a win over the Eagles this week or Washington in Week 17 to make the playoffs. Perkins is on the FLEX radar this Thursday night in Philly with the expectation that he earned more touches.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins has identical rushing stats to Rashad Jennings in Week 14.

He had 15 carries for 45 yards. He also had one catch for zero yards. Perkins is not a good fantasy option in a bad NYG offense.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins has nice day in Giants' loss.

Perkins rushed seven times for 38 yards, which led the Giants. The rookie should see more playing time at the expense of Rashad Jennings next week, but isn't a good fantasy option against Dallas and their ball control offense.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Perkins gets 11 touches in Week 12.

He had nine carries for 29 yards and two catches for 14 yards. The Giants run game struggled to get going in the game, and Perkins was no different. He's not a good fantasy option and would only have value if Rashad Jennings went down.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Paul Perkins gets six touches in Week 11.

Perkins had four carries for 16 yards and two catches for 19 yards. He’s more valuable for the Giants than in fantasy right now. He can remain on the waiver wire.

Paul Perkins | Free Agent RB

Perkins does little in Week 10.

He had nine carries for 31 yards and didn't catch any passes. Aside from a long catch-and-run against the Vikings in Week 4, Perkins hasn't done much. He belongs on the waiver wire or at the end of your bench.
