The Chiefs have signed wide receiver Sammie Coates.
This is a great spot for the 25-year-old 2015 third-round pick, and it's a great fit for the Chiefs and their explosive offense. Coates will have an opportunity to carve out a role in Kansas City's receiving rotation, and he'd be an intriguing option for Patrick Mahomes and company on offense if he makes the team. The former Auburn star doesn't need to be owned in all dynasty leagues, but he's worth an add if you have an open bench spot.
The Texans have waived Sammie Coates Jr.
Coates has filling a reserve role for Houston, so this doesn’t have big fantasy implications. The Texans might bring the former Auburn receiver back at some point.
Sammie Coates Jr. catches one pass in Texans' win.
Coates caught a pass in the flat in overtime that he took for 12 yards. It was his lone target of the game and his first as a Texan. Coates' role on offense isn't big enough to deliver fantasy value at the moment.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 2.
Coates was limited in practice all week, and the Texans decided to leave him home before their trip to Tennessee to face the Titans. We'll see if Coates is ready to go for Week 3, but he's off the fantasy radar, especially with Will Fuller expected back in the lineup.
Sammie Coates suffered a concussion in tonight's preseason game.
Coates will now enter concussion protocol and will have a week to get ready for the Texans' third preseason game. Hopefully he's feeling better soon. The fourth-year receiver is battling for a roster spot with Houston.
Sammie Coates has been claimed by the Texans.
Coates was waived by the Browns after all the moves they’ve made this week, and Houston has decided to pick him up. The former third-round pick of the Steelers is still just 25 (at the end of the month) and his speed hasn’t gone anywhere, so he should have a chance to earn a role behind DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller in Bill O’Brien’s offense. Coates might also be insurance for the oft-injured Fuller.
The Browns have released wide receiver Sammie Coates.
Coates was acquired from the Steelers ahead of last season, and he caught only six passes for 70 yards in 12 games played. The 2015 third-round selection should get a good amount of interest as a free agent, as he has potential as a big deep threat. Given his injury history, look for Coates to sign a short-term deal with lower guarantees.
Sammie Coates (knee/ankle) will not return against the Jaguars.
Coates didn't have a reception before leaving the game. He had two receptions in each of the last two games, but Coates wasn't a recommended fantasy option right now.
Sammie Coates catches 38-yard pass in loss to the Lions.
It came early in the game, and he only had one other reception for no gain in a 38-24 defeat. Coates should be on the waiver wire with a matchup against Jacksonville in Week 11, plus the impending returns of Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon.
Sammie Coates catches both targets against the Vikings.
Coates gained 13 yards on his two receptions in the Browns’ loss in London. Coates is a talented player, but his role isn’t big enough to be a fantasy option right now.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) is active against the Titans.
Like teammate Kenny Britt, Coates is active after being listed as questionable. He does have a good matchup against the Titans, but it's difficult to trust Coates in fantasy lineups. The third-year receiver might need a big play to make a fantasy impact.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) is questionable for Week 7.
Coates played last week but his hamstring is continuing to give him some issues. He'll probably be out there on Sunday, but he's not a recommended fantasy option, even in a good matchup.
Sammie Coates held to one catch in Week 6 loss.
It went for 11 yards. Coates should be on the waiver wire in redraft leagues, but he's a hold in dynasty leagues. It would be interesting to see what he could do as a starter in a good offense.
Sammie Coates is off the injury report.
Coates was a full participant in practice today, and he's ready to go on Sunday against the Jets after missing the last two games. With Kenny Britt (hamstring, doubtful) likely out, Coates could emerge as a top target on the outside for Cleveland. Still, he's not a recommended fantasy option yet.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) was limited in practice today.
Coates might be close to a return, be he did have two limited practices last week before being inactive. A full practice would indicate he's ready to play, which he hasn't had yet.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) is inactive for Week 4.
Coates was listed as questionable and it looked like he had a chance to play in the game, but he's now out again. The Browns will again rely on mostly inexperienced guys today against the Bengals.
Sammie Coates is officially questionable for Sunday.
Coates was a limited participant in practice yesterday and today, and he definitely has a real chance to get out there against the Bengals. However, he's not a reliable fantasy option right now, even if he is active for the game.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis today.
Coates is back on the practice field and headed in the right direction to be active on Sunday against the Bengals. We'll see how he's listed tomorrow when the official injury report is released.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) is out for Week 3.
Coates was listed as doubtful, so this isn't a surprise. With Corey Coleman (hand) already out, the Browns will rely on some of their unexperienced young guys against the Colts.
Sammie Coates (hamstring) is doubtful for Sunday.
The third-year receiver probably isn't going to suit up against Indy. Though talented, Coates hasn't caught a pass yet this season.
The Browns traded for Steelers receiver Sammie Coates, according to multiple reports.
NFL Network reports the Browns traded a 2018 sixth-round pick to Pittsburgh for Coates. It's a very nice get for Coates, who is a former third-round pick (87th overall) in the 2015 draft. The Steelers had a crowded group of receivers, and it looks like Justin Hunter might have won a roster spot after this trade. As for Coates, he's only 24-years-old and has a ton of talent; he's shown he can make plays in the NFL, but dealt with a hand injury that hindered him most of last season. Coates might step right in as a top three receiver behind Corey Coleman and Kenny Britt in Cleveland, but he's more of an option in dynasty leagues than standard leagues right now.
Sammie Coates catches one-of-four targets in Steelers' third preseason game.
He had one yard on his one reception. In a battle for a roster spot, the talented receiver will almost certainly be playing in the Steelers' final preseason game, which could be a very important one for him.
Sammie Coates catches three-of-four targets in Week 2 of the preseason.
The third-year receiver had 20 yards on his three receptions. Head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Coates could be fighting for one roster spot with Justin Hunter, who caught a touchdown in the game. If Coates isn't going to make the team, the Steelers should definitely be able to get something good for him in a trade.
Sammie Coates is listed as a top four receiver on the Steelers depth chart.
Coates was just activated off the PUP after he missed a few weeks with a knee scope, but he's been inserted as the primary backup to Antonio Brown on the depth chart. The starters for Pittsburgh are Brown and Martavis Bryant, with Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey listed behind them, with Eli Rogers and Justin Hunter behind them. Second-round pick JuJu Smith-Schuster and Cobi Hamilton are listed as "other" behind them on the depth chart. Pittsburgh clearly has a deep receiving corps, and they are going to have to make difficult decisions when it becomes time to cut the roster from 90 players to 53.
The Steelers activated WR Sammie Coates from the PUP List.
Coates had arthroscopic knee surgery and is right on schedule with his mid-August return. There's some speculation Coates' roster spot might not be safe, but the talented 24-year-old receiver will try to show he's healthy and can make an impact for Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Eli Rogers are all very likely locks to make the Steelers, so Coates could be battling Darrius Heyward-Bey and Justin Hunter for a final spot or two (unless the Steelers keep seven receivers).
Sammie Coates had arthroscopic knee surgery, according to Jeremy Fowler.
The Steelers receiver hurt his knee while training during the offseason, according to Fowler. Coates reportedly could return in mid-August, but this is obviously not ideal as he tries to bounce back from last season when he dealt with injuries. Still, the talented third-year player should be able to make the team, this just hurts his chances to have a big role on offense.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler thinks Sammie Coates is on the roster bubble for the Steelers.
Fowler believes four receivers (Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Eli Rogers, and rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster) are locks to make the roster. Pittsburgh will keep at least five receivers, and Coates is a good bet to make the team. He has a lot of ability, but was hindered by a broken hand/fingers last season; and he also plays special teams. If Coates ends up not making the Steelers, multiple teams would be lining up to claim or sign him.
Sammie Coates catches two passes for 34 yards in AFC Championship.
Coates had a chance for a bigger game, but couldn't quite haul in a deep ball from Ben Roethlisberger. Coates started off the year great, but struggled after he injured his hand. He has the talent to break out, but with Martavis Bryant (suspension) possibly back next season, it might be tough for Coates to get a ton of playing time.
