Join now >The Dolphins are placing Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) on injured reserve, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The hope is that Tua will be healed up and ready to return right when he’s eligible, but Jacoby Brissett is set to quarterback the Dolphins for the next three games. This is unfortunate for Tagovailoa, who was looking to take a step forward this season. That’ll now be put on hold temporarily, with the playoff-hopeful Dolphins looking to navigate an early-season stretch without their starting quarterback.

Zach Ertz (COVID list) has returned to the Eagles.
Ertz is back with the team, so he’s obviously tested negative for two consecutive days and is eligible to play against the Cowboys on Monday night. It’s good to hear that Ertz is feeling better and was able to rejoin his team without missing any games due to COVID protocols.

Trey Sermon has cleared the concussion protocol and will play in Week 3.
Sermon is basically the last man standing for San Francisco’s backfield with Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) doubtful, and the rookie will get a massive opportunity on Sunday night. Jacques Patrick and Trenton Cannon are the other running backs currently on the 53-man roster.

Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is doubtful for Week 3.
Mitchell apparently would have already been ruled out if San Francisco didn’t have a lot of new faces that might not have a great grasp of the offense, which could set up Trey Sermon for a featured workload. Fantasy owners shouldn’t count on Mitchell suiting up on Sunday.

Jamison Crowder (groin) is doubtful for Week 3.
New York is likely to be without the veteran for the third week in a row, so Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and Keelan Cole project to be the top three wideouts again. We’ll see if the Jets decide to make Denzel Mims active.

Tevin Coleman (illness) ruled out for Week 3.
Coleman won’t play this week with a non-COVID illness, so Michael Carter and Ty Johnson should see increased reps with La’Mical Perine also mixing in. This still remains a backfield to avoid outside of deeper leagues.
9/24/21 - 05:04 PM ET
Josh Jacobs (toe/ankle) is doubtful for Week 3.
Jacobs is likely to miss his second consecutive game, with Kenyan Drake and Peyton Barber set to carry the backfield load against the Dolphins.
