Join now >The Bills have named Nathan Peterman their starting quarterback.
While rookie Josh Allen was impressive this preseason, this was expected. In the team’s third preseason game, Allen had no time to throw and was beat up; meanwhile, Peterman got the ball out of his hands quickly to his receivers when he entered the game. Buffalo has an extremely tough early-season schedule, so they are going with the more experienced quarterback while taking things slow with their franchise signal-caller. Peterman is not a recommended fantasy option to open the season, especially against this brutal schedule.

The Saints waived Jonathan Williams.
This is a surprise after the team recently release Terrance West. Now New Orleans has just Mark Ingram (suspended four games), Alvin Kamara, and Boston Scott in the backfield, so they are almost certainly going to add another running back soon. Williams played well throughout the summer, so maybe the Saints are trying to squeeze him past waivers before re-signing him.

The Raiders signed Marcell Ateman to the practice squad.
The seventh-round rookie was impressive all summer, but it wasn’t enough to make the final roster. However, he’ll remain with Oakland on the practice squad. Ateman doesn’t have standard-league fantasy value while he’s currently off the 53-man roster, but he’s an intriguing dynasty-league stash.

J.T. Barrett has been waived by the Saints.
The undrafted Ohio State great was a major long shot to make the 53-man roster after the team acquired Teddy Bridgewater from the Jets. New Orleans would probably love to get Barrett on the practice squad, but he’ll go through waivers first.

The Broncos signed Carlos Henderson to the practice squad.
This one is a big surprise, as Henderson hadn’t showed up with the team this summer. Still, the Broncos feel good enough about their third-round pick from last year that they’re keeping him around on the practice squad. Henderson is off the fantasy radar.

The Saints have placed Shane Vereen (finger) on injured reserve.
Vereen had a chance at an early-season role with Mark Ingram suspended, but that obviously won’t be the case. The team might go with Boston Scott as the main compliment to Alvin Kamara in Week 1 if they don’t bring in outside help.

The Saints are signing Mike Gillislee, according to multiple reports.
One day after getting cut by New England, Gillislee lands in a perfect spot with the Saints, who have Mark Ingram suspended for the first four games of the season. Gillislee could become the primary compliment for Alvin Kamara to open the season, but he’s a slight risk in Week 1 with the backfield workloads uncertain. Gillislee is worth considering drafting or picking up for Ingram owners.
