Rapoport says before Fleener’s release, he was still getting treatment in the Saints building for the final concussion he suffered last season. Considering Fleener suffered the concussion in late November and was placed on injured reserve, getting treatment over five months later isn’t a great sign. Unfortunately, Fleener might not play in the NFL again, but hopefully he gets to 100% soon and then can think about what he wants to do.

The Saints have released tight end Coby Fleener, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Fleener signed a lucrative five-year, $36 million deal with New Orleans in 2016, but he only lasted two years with the team, totaling 72 receptions for 926 yards and five touchdowns. The former second-round pick turns 30 in September and has the talent to land somewhere soon, but it will be interesting to see if he decides to continue playing after dealing with a few concussions throughout his career. It’s currently difficult to see a landing spot that would be able to turn Fleener into a fantasy contributor in 2018.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy talks up DeShone Kizer.
McCarthy said he believed Kizer, who was acquired in a trade with the Browns earlier this offseason, “has starter ability in this league” and would have been grouped in with the top five quarterbacks from this year’s draft. Remember, Kizer left Notre Dame with two years of eligibility left, which Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly said he thought was a bad idea. McCarthy also said that Kizer has “exceptional” arm talent, and he likes that Kizer can still be developed. This could just be McCarthy talking up Kizer to eventually use him as a trade chip in a few years, but Kizer will be competing for the backup job in Green Bay this season.

The Chiefs signed running back Darrel Williams as an undrafted free agent.
Stuck behind Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice at LSU, Williams didn’t put up big numbers during his college career in Baton Rouge. Williams is a big and powerful back, but his best contributions to start his NFL career will likely come on special teams. He’s also seen as a high-character guy, so that should help him as he attempts to make an NFL roster as an undrafted rookie.

The Chiefs have signed Byron Pringle as an undrafted free agent.
Pringle will be 25 years old this season, as he had issues with the law growing up and took an uncommon route to Kansas State. During his final college season, Pringle was a big-time deep threat, averaging 24.1 yards per reception, and he was invited to the Senior Bowl. Pringle will attempt to win a roster spot or potentially a practice squad spot in Kansas City.

The Randall Telfer trade between the Browns and the Chiefs has been called off, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
It’s unclear why exactly the trade has been called off, but Yates says both Dadi Nicolas and Telfer have now been waived. Telfer shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new team if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

The Dolphins have claimed Bryce Petty off waivers, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
The former New York Jet heads to a division rival, as Miami adds another arm to their quarterback room. Petty started against the Dolphins a couple of seasons ago, going 20/36 for 235 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase and company probably like that Petty operated a high-octane offense during his college career at Baylor. The big-armed quarterback will look to carve out a role on the final roster for the Dolphins.
