Join now >The Bears are placing the franchise tag on Allen Robinson.
Especially for a team entering a critical year for the current regime, there was no way the Bears were going to let a player like Robinson walk for nothing. Robinson joins Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin as the two players at the position getting franchise tagged this year, meaning Lions receiver Kenny Golladay is likely to get a ton of attention during free agency. A-Rob would make around $16 million on the franchise tag, but he and Chicago have until mid-July to agree to a long-term deal.

The Chargers will not place the franchise tag on Hunter Henry, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Henry will hit free agency next week, and he should have a sizable market as the top likely option at the position along with Jonnu Smith. The main concern about Henry is durability, but he can be an elite red-zone threat with double-digit touchdown upside. It will be interesting to see what kind of money he’s able to get considering the cap situations around the league.

The Lions don’t plan to franchise tag Kenny Golladay.
While the Bucs are tagging wide receiver Chris Godwin, the Lions are not doing the same for Golladay. The status of the Bears and Allen Robinson II remains in the air, but Golladay is set to have a massive market when he enters free agency next week. We’ll see what happens, but it’s probably likely that Golladay leaves Detroit in free agency considering the Lions opted against placing the franchise tag on him.

The Buccaneers are placing the franchise tag on Chris Godwin.
This has been expected for a while, and it ensures Godwin will remain with Tampa Bay in 2021. Expect the two sides to continue working towards a long-term extension in the coming weeks, but Godwin will make around $16 million on this one-year franchise tag if he plays on it. In addition to his prowess as a pass-catcher, Godwin also does a lot of dirty work and is held in extremely high regard by Bruce Arians and the Bucs.

Devin Funchess restructured his contract.
After opting out of last season, Funchess is reportedly taking a pay cut to remain with the Packers. The big former Panthers and Colts receiver will be an interesting player to keep an eye on this summer given his ability in the red zone.

The Cowboys are signing Dak Prescott to a new contract.
The team itself broke this news, announcing that they’ve signed their franchise quarterback to a new deal, with a press conference scheduled for Wednesday. Dallas was set to use the franchise tag for a second consecutive year on Prescott, but the two sides finally came to an agreement after lengthy and somewhat contentious negotiations dating back to last season. According to multiple reports, Prescott is getting a four-year, $160 million deal including a record $126 million guaranteed, so the former fourth-round pick did extraordinarily well to remain patient and get this whopper of a deal. Prescott had a very strong start to the 2020 season before a season-ending leg injury, and the team and new head coach Mike McCarthy clearly saw enough to know he’s their guy moving forward. Prescott is by all accounts an excellent person and someone the Cowboys should feel good about as a face of the franchise.

Levine Toilolo agreed to a restructured contract.
We’ve seen a lot of this around the NFL with the 2021 salary cap lower due to the pandemic, but Toilolo will remain with the Giants this season. The veteran tight end will mostly contribute as an extra blocker on offense.
