Join now >Jay Gruden believes Chris Thompson is the best third-down back in the league.
Gruden said Thompson's role is "big" because it's on third downs, which Gruden called "the most important down in football." Thompson had 49 receptions last season, but it's looking like he'll blow that away this season. While the lead back for the Redskins isn't known yet, it's clear Thompson will be a huge asset for the Kirk Cousins and the Redskins on third down. He should deliver FLEX value in standard leagues.

Kerwynn Williams is expected to be the Cardinals' primary backup running back this season.
Barring any roster moves, Williams will be the top backup to David Johnson this season. Johnson might be the most-used workhorse back in the NFL, but Williams should chip in for the team. Williams will also be among the better handcuffs this year.

Odell Beckham Jr. didn't show up to Giants OTAs, according to Dan Duggan.
The workouts are not mandatory, but most players in the league attend their team's OTAs. Maybe Beckham has a good reason for not going, but he reportedly has not gone to many of the optional workouts this offseason. Beckham tweeted in April about how hard he's going to work, so it's surprising he isn't with his team trying to get better with them; he's probably working hard somewhere, though. Word on Beckham's reasoning for not being there and/or thoughts from the Giants should be available in the next few days.

Demaryius Thomas is back at Broncos' OTAs.
DT missed yesterday with a "personal reason," it's good to see it doesn't appear too serious and Thomas is back after missing only one day. Thomas is getting reps with both Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch, who are competing for the starting quarterback job.

Free agent receiver Cecil Shorts III will not play this season, wants to play in 2018.
Shorts said this on SiriusXM NFL. Unfortunately, Shorts had a severe knee injury in December, which reportedly included a torn ACL, MCL, PCL and knee discloation. Shorts says he has another surgery to go. He's only 29, so Shorts should get interest next offseason. Good luck to him on his long rehab process.

Hue Jackson: "we have to run the ball more."
Jackson said the team didn't run enough last season. Jackson loves to run the ball, but had the second fewest rush attempts in the league last season. The Browns have one of the better offensive lines in the league, and they're almost certain to run more this season. Isaiah Crowell, who had 198 carries last season and averaged 4.8 yards per carry, has 250 carry upside this season.

The Jets waived/injured 2015 second round pick Devin Smith.
The move was made to make room on the 90-man roster for receiver Deshon Foxx. Smith suffered an ACL tear earlier this offseasaon, his second straight year with an ACL tear. The deep threat will now hit waivers, and we'd think someone will claim him. If not, Smith will be on injured reserve with the Jets.
