Washington is releasing Adrian Peterson.

This is a bit of a surprise for a well-respected future Hall of Fame running back that’s rushed for nearly 2,000 yards over the past two seasons for Washington, but the Washington Football Team is apparently looking to stay younger at the position and had one of the deepest running back groups in the NFL. Peterson is 35 years old, but he’s different than most humans and has shown he still has some left in his tank. It’s tough to predict a team fit for a guy that wants to be handed the football often, but AD should find a landing spot at some point. Washington’s backfield might be immediately led by rookie Antonio Gibson; but Bryce Love is an exciting talent, J.D. McKissic is expected to be involved on third downs, and the team is reportedly high on Peyton Barber.

The Eagles waived Tyrone Swoopes.

The Eagles signed Swoopes recently, but it looks like the move was mostly for camp depth. Swoopes should land elsewhere soon.

The Eagles waived Elijah Holyfield.

Holyfield was with Philadelphia last postseason, but they are going in another direction at running back for now. We’d think the Eagles will want to try to get Holyfield through waivers and onto the practice squad.

The Eagles waived Deontay Burnett.

The USC product is a practice squad candidate, but he’ll first go through waivers and could land elsewhere in the coming days. Burnett does not need to be held in dynasty leagues.

The Patriots have named Cam Newton as their starting quarterback.

This was the expectation when the former NFL MVP signed, and then it became all but a certainty when Jarrett Stidham was impacted by a hip/leg injury. Newton is expected to lead a very run-heavy New England offense, and it will be fun to see what kind of attack Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels have crafted for his skillset. The Patriots will take on the Dolphins in Week 1.

The 49ers placed Tavon Austin (knee) on injured reserve.

This is unfortunate for Austin, who landed in an offense that might have allowed him to make an impact with the ball in his hands. The dynamic talent does not need to be held in dynasty leagues.

The Falcons released Khari Lee with an injury settlement.

Lee was on injured reserve but is now free to sign with another team. Lee is off the fantasy radar at tight end for now.
