Join now >Deebo Samuel (foot) is expected to practice next week.
Ultimately, the 49ers are probably going to be smart, but this would likely put Samuel on track to play in Week 1. The dynamic second-year receiver has said since his broken foot that he will be back for the season opener, and he appears to have healed up well. A risk of re-injury is obviously a possibility for a fracture like Samuel suffered, but there’s definite value potential in the middle parts of fantasy drafts.

The Patriots are releasing Mohamed Sanu.
There was speculation that this might happen, but it’s still a bit of a surprise after the Patriots sent a second-round pick to the Falcons in exchange for Sanu last season. That said, New England is all about moving forward and getting better, and they are not going to stick with a player they don’t feel would be the best fit for the roster just because some people might think they look “bad” for making the trade last season. Sanu was hampered by an ankle injury during the second half of 2019, and that continued into the offseason. But Sanu just turned 31 years old and should not have any trouble finding a new team soon.

The Vikings waived Tony Brooks-James.
Brooks-James will see if he can land with another team in the coming days, but he might settle for a practice squad spot, perhaps back with the Vikings, this season.

Washington has officially named Dwayne Haskins their starting quarterback.
This isn’t a surprise, but Alex Smith returning to the field at least made it a question for a team that expects to compete immediately under Ron Rivera. Although we saw Haskins show flashes down the stretch as a rookie last season, he won’t be a highly recommended fantasy option leading an offense that lacks established playmakers behind Terry McLaurin.

The Falcons signed Kyle Lauletta.
Lauletta might have a tough time make Atlanta’s 53-man roster so late in the season, but he lands in a spot that might be a good fit for him the be on the practice squad this season. Lauletta is off the fantasy radar for now.

The Giants signed Johnny Holton.
Holton can contribute at both receiver and in the return game, and he presumably will help pick up the slack with Golden Tate (hamstring, day-to-day) currently out.

Ian Thomas is dealing with a toe injury.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule says he expects Thomas back soon, but keep in mind that Week 1 is fast approaching, so it’s no lock that the young tight end is ready to face the Raiders to open the year. Thomas is going undrafted or toward the end of most fantasy drafts.
