Join now >The Lions have released Zach Zenner.
Detroit likely plans to go with three running backs (Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson, and Ty Johnson), and they’re probably releasing Zenner now to give him an opportunity to latch on with another team earlier than the Saturday cuts. Zenner, who turns 28 next month, spent four seasons with the Lions.

Lamar Miller tore his ACL, according to multiple reports.
It certainly looked like Miller suffered a serious knee injury in last night’s preseason game, and it is unfortunately indeed a season-ender for the veteran running back. Miller will turn 29 next offseason and will become a free agent, and unfortunately he is not a lock to draw a lot of interest around the league in a harsh running back market. However, Miller has been a reliable player for the Texans, and his loss is a big one. Houston appears set to rely on Duke Johnson Jr. carrying a large load in 2019, but there are free-agent options (Jay Ajayi, Doug Martin, and other guys that will be released at final roster cuts on Saturday) and a potential trade option in Melvin Gordon. We wish Miller luck on his recovery.

The Packers are cutting DeShone Kizer, according to ESPN.
This is a bit of a surprise, but Green Bay will almost certainly be brining in a veteran backup for Aaron Rodgers. Kizer said earlier this offseason that he sees himself as future Super Bowl MVP. It’ll be interesting to see where he lands.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden suggests that Colt McCoy (leg) may not be ready until into the regular season.
McCoy was thought to have a good chance to win the starting job in a three-way competition with Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins, but the recovery from a broken leg has not gone smoothly. Hopefully McCoy can get cleared sooner than expected, but Keenum is fully expected to be under center when Washington takes on Philadelphia in Week 1.

DeSean Jackson’s broken finger is potentially a three-to-four-week injury, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
NFL Network reported that Jackson’s injury was minor, but Anderson says that he will try out a custom splint and may miss time if the comfort level isn’t there before he’s fully healed. DeSean is expected to be a full-blown boom-or-bust option this season, so this could be reason to keep him on the waiver wire to start the year for those drafting soon. Hopefully we get a better idea of the timetable when Jackson tries out the splint tomorrow.

The Raiders placed Doug Martin on injured reserve.
Martin was reportedly released this morning, but instead it sounds like the Raiders wanted to keep him on IR. An injury settlement that allows Martin to become a free agent should be reached soon, so this news doesn’t change much from this morning.

The Lions have released James Williams.
Williams was thought to have a shot at being the team’s Theo Riddick replacement after being signed recently, but he may end up signing with the practice squad of other teams don’t have interest.
