Join now >Taquan Mizzell handles one carry in loss to the Eagles.
It went for a loss of one yard, and he failed to corral his lone target in the passing game. Mizzell had seemed to emerge as the team’s No. 3 runner down the stretch, but he and Benny Cunningham both saw the field on Sunday, though the latter now enters free agency. Chicago could bring in more backfield competition this offseason.

Steelers owner Art Rooney II says the team is talking to Ben Roethlisberger about a contract extension.
Rooney said Roethlisberger has one year left on his contract, so they’ve already started talking about extending him, adding: “So, I think that Ben has some good years left. He’s still, I would say, close to being in the prime of his career and now that we see quarterbacks around the league that are playing into their 40s, I am not sure there is any reason why Ben can’t play for several more years. So we are looking forward to that.” Big Ben was considering retirement in recent years, so to hear talk about him potentially playing several more years is a bit surprising. He does appear to be taking better care of his body, though, and he probably has fun throwing the ball around in an offense that gives him a ton of freedom. Expect an extension to be worked out at some point before the regular season, and it’ll be interesting to see how long it is.

Wendell Smallwood handles 11 touches in playoff loss.
Smallwood rushed ten times for 33 yards, also adding a six-yard reception. Philadelphia jumped out to a 14-0 lead as Smallwood operated as the team’s clear lead runner, but Doug Pederson mostly abandoned the run in the second half as New Orleans played keep-away. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Smallwood emerged down the stretch, but the Eagles are a prime candidate to add premium talent to the running back position this offseason.

Alshon Jeffery, Eagles lose a heartbreaker in the Divisional Round.
Jeffery caught five-of-eight targets for 63 yards, but the final offensive play of the game—and perhaps the final play for Nick Foles’ career as an Eagle—bounced right off Alshon’s hands, resulting in a Marshon Lattimore interception. The big-bodied wideout was clearly sick about the result, but hopefully the disappointment fuels him for 2019 and beyond. Unfortunately for his fantasy prospects, Carson Wentz is fully expected to be Philly’s starting quarterback next season, so Sunday was likely his final chance to connect with the gunslinging Foles.

Zach Ertz catches five passes in playoff win over Chicago.
Ertz gained 52 yards on his five receptions in the Eagles’ Wild Card win. As usual, the Pro Bowl tight end made tough catches throughout the evening, including a key reception where he high-pointed the ball in tight coverage late in the game. Next Sunday, Ertz faces a Saints team that shut him down (two receptions, 15 yards) in the regular season matchup, but Philadelphia is spreading the ball around more than they did back during that matchup.

The Titans will keep the same offensive terminology in 2019.
With former Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur taking the head coach job in Green Bay, the Titans have promoted within with former tight ends coach Arthur Smith, and head coach Mike Vrabel says the offense will keep the same terminology next season. Vrabel noted that keeping the same terminology will make the transition in play-caller easier on everyone, and it will allow the offense to get lined up faster. While keeping an in-house coordinator with the the same offense is good for quarterback Marcus Mariota, this will be the 25-year-old’s fifth play-caller in five seasons—obviously, that is far from ideal for the young franchise quarterback, so hopefully Smith sticks around. Mariota has obvious QB1 upside because of his ability, but he might go undrafted in most fantasy drafts this summer.

Niners GM John Lynch says Jerick McKinnon is catching passes.
Lynch says he spotted Jimmy Garoppolo throwing to McKinnon the other day. The explosive former Vikings running back didn’t get to play for the Niners yet after tearing his ACL in an early-September practice, but it sounds like Lynch is excited to get him back in the backfield mix next season. The Niners had big plans for McKinnon as the feature back in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and the situation will be among the most interesting in the NFL throughout the spring and summer, as Matt Breida (5.3 yards per carry in 2018) filled in admirably as the starter. Expect McKinnon to be the starter, but it’s probably not a 100% lock. Considering he’s having a catch with his franchise quarterback not even five months removed from the ACL tear, McKinnon should be ready by training camp at the latest.
