After the season-ending injury to starter Hunter Henry during the offseason program, there was much speculation about the future Hall of Famer Gates potentially returning to the Chargers; it took all summer, but it indeed happened one week from the Chargers’ season opener next Sunday. Because of Gates’ experience playing with Philip Rivers, there isn’t much concern about him getting reacclimatized to the offense. Expect Gates to be in the lineup in Week 1, though his fantasy value will likely be dependent on scoring touchdowns in the red zone.

The Patriots waived Amara Darboh.
New England just claimed the 2017 third-round pick of the Seahawks on Sunday, but they’ve now waived him and the team is back to four receivers on the 53-man roster. The Seahawks are probably going to want to get Darboh on the practice squad if they can.

Chris Warren is undergoing knee surgery.
The Raiders placed the undrafted rookie running back on injured reserve earlier today, and it’s for a serious knee injury that requires surgery. Warren will now rehab and attempt to carve out a role in the Raiders backfield in 2019. He is a recommended dynasty-league hold, as there’s a chance the running back group undergoes some changes with veterans Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin in the mix this season.

The Dolphins are signing Brandon Bolden, according to multiple reports.
Bolden spent his first six NFL seasons in New England as one of their best special teams players and a solid contributor on offense when called upon, but he’s signing with a division rival. Bolden is not a fantasy option right now, but he’ll be a good locker-room presence and a big-time special-teams contributor for Miami.

The Seahawks placed Austin Davis on injured reserve.
It’s unclear what injury Davis is dealing with, but perhaps an injury settlement will be reached that would allow him to sign with another team. Brett Hundley is going to be Russell Wilson’s backup this season.

Mack Hollins (groin) will not play in Week 1.
The second-year receiver hasn’t practiced in a while, so this was fully expected. The Eagles don’t have any big targets (in terms of height) to open the season. Hollins might not be ready for Week 2, either.

The Raiders released E.J. Manuel.
After the team acquired A.J. McCarron from the Bills, they decided to part ways with both Connor Cook and Manuel. Gruden was unhappy with the play of both former backup quarterbacks, so this isn’t a surprise. Expect McCarron to enter the season as Derek Carr’s backup.
