The 49ers released Salvon Ahmed.

Ahmed is being waived to make room for tight end Erik Swoope. The undrafted rookie running back out of Washington will likely have a tough time cracking a 53-man roster at this point, but he shouldn’t have much trouble landing with a practice squad—San Francisco would probably be a good fit for him long-term.

The Eagles are signing Tyrone Swoopes.

Swoopes, a former quarterback for Texas, is an athletic option at tight end. Swoopes has spent the last few years with the Seahawks, and he’ll look to crack an Eagles roster that utilizes the tight ends a good amount on offense.

The Bears signed Alex Wesley.

The 2019 undrafted free agent from Northern Colorado will look to compete and show the Bears coaches something over the next couple of weeks after previously spending time with the team. Ultimately, the practice squad might be a good landing spot for him this year.

The Bears waived Trevor Davis.

Chicago is set with receiver/returner type options with Cordarrelle Patterson among the position group, but this gives Davis an opportunity to land with another team and attempt to win a role before the season.

The Buccaneers signed Spencer Schnell.

Schnell was waived by Tampa Bay earlier this year, but he’s back in the mix as the season approaches. The 2019 undrafted receiver probably has an uphill climb to make the final roster.

The 49ers are signing Erik Swoope.

Swoope showed big-play flashes during his time with the Colts (in 2016 in particular), but he was out of the league last year and finally gets another opportunity in San Francisco. The Niners have been bolstering the tight end group this summer, and Swoope will look to win a roster spot and help complement All-Pro George Kittle this season.

Tyrell Williams has a torn labrum, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Williams will rehab for “a few weeks” and then attempt to play through it, so surgery isn’t immediately on the table. That said, this is a definite blow to the veteran’s fantasy value, and—especially because there is a chance rehab doesn’t work and surgery eventually becomes an option—he probably isn’t worth considering in redraft leagues anymore. Henry Ruggs III and Hunter Renfrow should be locked in as starters, so this news is a boost to Nelson Agholor and third-round pick Bryan Edwards.
