Tom Brady | Retired QB

The Patriots and Tom Brady have agreed to a two-year contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brady—who just turned 42 yesterday—had been entering the final year of his deal, but it was only a matter of time before New England extended him beyond this season. While the six-time Super Bowl champion saw his regular season numbers decline in 2018, he is still at the top of his game (particularly in the postseason) as arguably the best player in football, and there is no reason to expect a decline considering his work ethic. For fantasy purposes, the Patriots have become a run-first offense over the past couple years, so TB12 is more of a low-end QB2 option in redraft leagues. That said, the team could probably shift to an aerial attack like the flip of switch, and Brady might be worth investing in for dynasty owners that believe he can play at least four more seasons through his age-45 campaign. This deal will tie Brady to the Patriots through the 2021 season, and he is set to be the sixth highest-paid quarterback in the league this year.

Danny Etling | Vikings QB

The Patriots waived Danny Etling.

Etling was getting time at wide receiver this summer as he looked to make the team in New England, but the Patriots are going in another direction. It hurt Etling when the Pats drafted Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round of this year’s draft. Etling’s athleticism could lead to teams being interested in him at multiple positions, and it won’t be surprised if multiple teams put in waivers claims on him.

Darren Waller | Retired TE

Darren Waller (shoulder) has returned to practice.

Waller’s AC joint sprain is apparently very minor, which is great to hear. Oakland’s starting tight end needs all the reps he can get as he prepares for a potentially-big role replacing Jared Cook. Assuming the starters play for the Raiders in this Saturday’s preseason game against the Rams, Waller will likely be out there with his teammates.

Drew Lock | Seahawks QB

Drew Lock is dealing with a “bad” right thumb sprain.

The good news is that NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says no surgery is necessary for Lock. Consider the second-round rookie quarterback week-to-week for now, and Kevin Hogan will likely back up Joe Flacco to start the season. It would’ve been good for Lock to get a good amount of playing time over these final two preseason games, but he’ll take mental reps in what’s expected to be essentially be a redshirt year for him anyway.

Roc Thomas | Jaguars RB

Roc Thomas is signing with the Jaguars, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Thomas—who was recently released by the Vikings—is suspended for the first three games of the regular season, but he should have a decent shot at a roster spot if the team keeps a fourth running back behind Leonard Fournette, Alfred Blue, and Ryquell Armstead. While the injury history of Fournette makes him worth monitoring, Thomas is unlikely to jump Blue and Armstead on the depth chart.

Emanuel Hall | Free Agent WR

The Bears have waived Emanuel Hall.

The undrafted rookie will now hit waivers, and he shouldn’t have much trouble signing with a new team if he goes unclaimed. The Missouri product has the speed to stretch the field and take the top off defenses.

Antonio Brown | Free Agent WR

Antonio Brown is considered day-to-day, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Images posted on Brown’s social media show that the All-Pro receiver is apparently dealing with ugly-looking blisters on bottom of both feet, so it’s not anything like a break or a ligament issue. Brown probably just needs to get the situation under control so that he’s more comfortable, and that could mean some medicine to remedy the issue. AB might sit the team’s first preseason game (which he might have done anyway), but this shouldn’t be an issue that lasts much longer or affects him into the regular season. Expect him to get back on the practice field soon.
