Bilal Powell | Retired RB

The Jets have signed Bilal Powell.

Powell worked out for the team today, and they didn’t waste any time signing him. The veteran has been in New York since entering the league in 2011, but he will obviously have much stiffer competition for touches this year with Le’Veon Bell locked in as the starter, which makes Powell nothing more than a late-round flier that will need to beat out Ty Montgomery and Elijah McGuire for backup duties.

Tyreek Hill | Dolphins WR

The criminal investigation into Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is no longer active, according to The Kansas City Star.

This is all stemming from the child abuse incident that resulted in Hill’s three-year-old son breaking his arm, but Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe told the Star in an email, “It’s not an active investigation,” and he wouldn’t even confirm that the investigation had been re-opened at all following the taped recording of Hill threatening his fiancee surfacing. Hill has been away from the team, but both the NFL and the Chiefs have had little to say about the situation, though perhaps that will change if the league conducts their own investigation now that law enforcement has apparently moved on. There is still a chance Hill is released, suspended, or both, but the longer he remains on the team, the better his chances of sticking around are. We think the most likely scenario may end up being a one-year suspension that gets Hill back on the field in 2020.

Carson Wentz | Free Agent QB

The Eagles have signed Carson Wentz to a four-year contract extension.

This deal locks Wentz up through the 2024 season, as he had two years remaining on his rookie contract. Wentz has looked fully healthy this offseason coming off a season-ending back injury, and the Eagles clearly feel comfortable about their franchise quarterback long-term. There’s obviously some concern with Wentz suffering season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons, but his price really could have skyrocketed if he stayed healthy and had a monster year in 2019. Wentz’s contract will likely help set the market for other quarterbacks like Dak Prescott and Jared Goff to sign extensions, and this probably isn’t the last long-term quarterback contract we’ll see this offseason. After Philadelphia paid Wentz, they are likely going to want to show they made the right decision to extend him now months after letting Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles walk in free agency—we could see huge passing numbers, including potentially some running-up of the scoreboard, from Wentz and the Eagles offense this season. [UPDATE: Wentz’s extension is reportedly worth $128 million with $107 guaranteed.]

Rashaad Penny | Retired RB

Rashaad Penny lost some weight this offseason.

Penny says he is below 230 pounds after working with a nutritionist during the offseason, adding that he feels better and can move better at a lower weight. The second-year running back also said last year was “frustrating” for him while he dealt with a broken finger, as he said he was never hurt from playing football before and “just hit a wall” after his injury. Additionally, the 2018 first-round pick admitted that he’s taking things more seriously this year, and he’s been drawing good reviews through OTAs. Penny made some explosive plays and averaged 4.9 yards per carry last season, and he figures to see a sizable role this year despite the presence of 1,151-yard rusher Chris Carson as the team’s starter.

Jermaine Kearse | Lions WR

The Lions are signing Jermaine Kearse, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kearse started nine games for the Jets in his age-28 campaign, catching 37 passes for 371 yards and one touchdown as he saw his role decreased from 2017. He’ll join new Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell again, as the two spent five years together in Seattle. In Detroit, the veteran won’t be anything more than the No. 4 receiver if he makes the team, but his size makes him an ideal insurance policy for both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. Redraft leagues can probably ignore Kearse for now.

Davante Adams | Rams WR

Aaron Rodgers wants Davante Adams to get the ball more.

After Adams had 169 targets last season, Rodgers said “I’d like to throw to Davante more (this year). He’s that open. We’ve got to keep finding ways to get him the ball.” Rodgers also added, “there’s nothing wrong with having a go-to guy who’s that dynamic and trying to find ways to get him the ball.” ESPN Packers writer Rob Demovsky thinks Adams can hit 200 targets this year if he stays healthy for all 16 games, and while that might be a stretch, the 26-year-old is a lock to be among the league-leaders in targets again this season, barring injury. Adams had a 111/1,386/13 line last season, and he offers an elite floor with sky-high upside; fantasy owners shouldn’t hesitate to take him very early in drafts this summer.

Phillip Lindsay | Colts RB

The Broncos expect Phillip Lindsay (wrist) to be ready for the start of training camp.

This is according to Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. Earlier this offseason, Linsday didn’t want to put a timetable on his return from a bad wrist injury suffered at the end of last season, but training camp seems like the ideal target date for a return. It’d be a surprise if Lindsay isn’t at least ready to practice on a limited basis on Day 1 of camp this summer, and his Week 1 status doesn’t appear to be in much doubt at the moment.
