Jared Cook | Free Agent TE

The Saints are signing Jared Cook, according to NFL Network.

After the Saints cleared cap space via a Cameron Meredith pay cut, it felt like this would happen quickly. This will be Cook’s fifth team, and it’s a bit of a surprise the talented tight end hasn’t been able to stick around with one team. The Raiders were interested in bringing Cook back, but probably not at what New Orleans is going to pay him—especially after the acquisition of high-priced All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown. Cook is coming off his best season statistically, setting career-highs in receptions (68), receiving yards (896), and receiving touchdowns (six), but he was basically Oakland’s No. 1 receiver after the Amari Cooper trade, and that won’t be the case in New Orleans. Still, Cook, who will turn 32 next month, obviously has a lot of upside as a TE1 with Drew Brees throwing him passes.

Cameron Meredith | Free Agent WR

Cameron Meredith took a pay cut, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Meredith’s base salary goes from $3.4 million to $1.3 million, with his cap number dropping to $4.15 million, according to Yates. This creates cap space for New Orleans as they look to make more moves, and it could lead to them quickly finalizing a deal with free-agent tight end Jared Cook. Meredith played in just six games last season, as he still dealt with complications from his knee injury suffered in the 2017 preseason with the Bears, but hopefully we see him at 100% this season. In an explosive offense, it wouldn’t be surprising if he delivers fantasy value in 2019.

Trevor Siemian | Free Agent QB

The Jets are signing Trevor Siemian to a one-year deal.

With Josh McCown uncertain if he wants to continue his playing career, the Jets moved to ensure they have a backup they can count on behind Sam Darnold. Siemian has starting experience and can step in and play well if necessary, but he likely wouldn’t be a QB1 option if he’s forced into the lineup this season. The former Bronco and Viking is in a good spot with a year to learn under head coach Adam Gase, though.

Doug Baldwin | Free Agent WR

Doug Baldwin is getting more surgeries.

Baldwin told Seattle’s Sports Radio 950 KJR that he has more surgeries to come this offseason, which obviously isn’t a great sign after he already had knee and shoulder surgeries after the season. The veteran receiver played all 16 games in each of his first seven seasons before he missed three games last season and was hampered by injuries all year. Baldwin battled through multiple ailments in 2018, and it almost sounds like his body is just starting to break down—he’ll only be 31 this September, though, so maybe these surgeries will get him back to feeling like himself. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Baldwin might need sports hernia surgery, which would mean several weeks of recovery time. The Seahawks are likely going to be in a market for a receiver during the draft, and Baldwin is probably iffy at best for offseason training.

Tyler Bray | Bears QB

The Bears signed Tyler Bray to a one-year deal.

Bray was on Chicago’s 53-man roster and practice squad last season, and he’s back as the third quarterback behind Mitchell Trubisky and Chase Daniel. The former Tennessee Volunteer is off the fantasy radar at the moment.

AJ McCarron | Free Agent QB

The Texans are signing A.J. McCarron, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

There was some thought that the Raiders, who clearly like McCarron, would bring him back at a lesser cost after cutting him last week. But the 28-year-old is landing with Bill O’Brien and the Texans as Deshaun Watson’s backup. McCarron is obviously a different type of quarterback than Watson, but he’d be able to fill in nicely for O’Brien and the offense if called upon.

Malcolm Brown | Free Agent RB

The Lions signed Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Brown is a restricted free agent of the Rams, so LA has five days to match Detroit’s offer and keep Brown on the team. Because Brown was given the original-round tender and was an undrafted free agent when he joined the Rams, the Rams would get no compensation if they do not match the Lions’ offer. C.J. Anderson is still lingering out there in free agency, which could impact the Rams’ decision after the veteran runner had so much success for the team toward the end of last season; but the Rams are clearly high on Brown, too, and might not want to lose him.
