Raheem Mostert | Raiders RB

The Niners signed Raheem Mostert to a three-year deal.

Just a week ago, Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler said that they decided to have this season play out on the one-year tender, but things have changed. Mostert is now locked up in San Francisco through the 2021 season after he performed exceptionally well before landing on injured reserve last season. The backfield situation of the Niners is slightly confusing at the moment, as they have free-agent addition Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, and Mostert all in the mix. We would think one of McKinnon or Breida is moved at some point before next season.

Tyreek Hill | Dolphins WR

Tyreek Hill is under investigation for alleged battery, according to the Kansas City Star.

A police report lists a juvenile as the victim, and Hill’s fiancee Crystal Espinal—who Hill previously assaulted in college—is listed as “others involved.” In a statement to the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs said they are “aware of the investigation” and “in the process of gathering information.” The full article (linked below) says “the incident was against the couple’s son, resulting in a broken arm,” but Hill has not yet been charged. Obviously, this is a bad situation for the star receiver, and if indicted, his past might force the team to make another difficult decision after releasing Kareem Hunt last year.

Blaine Gabbert | Free Agent QB

The Titans are releasing Blaine Gabbert.

Titans GM Jon Robinson just made the announcement while talking about some of the team’s recent transactions. This was obviously fully expected after the Titans acquired Ryan Tannehill from the Dolphins to be Marcus Mariota’s backup. The 29-year-old Gabbert should land somewhere as another team’s backup, or perhaps he’ll get a shot as a starter in Miami where there’s a wide-open quarterback depth chart.

Marvin Hall | Free Agent WR

Marvin Hall has signed with the Bears.

Hall spent the first two seasons in Atlanta, averaging 17.4 yards per reception on 12 grabs as a role player. He will look to earn a roster spot behind the Bears’ current starting trio of Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, and Taylor Gabriel this summer.

Ryan Tannehill | Free Agent QB

The Titans have acquired Ryan Tannehill from the Dolphins.

Tennessee also restructured Tannehill’s contract, making it a one-year deal that will almost certainly lower his cap number significantly. The former first-round pick is an ideal backup quarterback for Marcus Mariota, as they have similar athletic profiles. Mariota has missed at least one game in each of his four NFL seasons including missing parts of last season because of a nerve issue in his throwing elbow, so it makes sense that Tennessee was aggressive in upgrading their backup quarterback situation. The quarterback depth chart for the Dolphins is now a complete mystery with Tannehill now out of the picture. Tannehill (123 touchdowns, 75 interceptions in his career) played well in his six seasons in Miami, including a playoff appearance with Adam Gase in 2016.

J.J. Nelson | Free Agent WR

The Raiders signed J.J. Nelson.

This is Oakland’s third wide receiver addition of the week, as the team traded for Antonio Brown and signed Tyrell Williams. Behind Brown and Williams, the receiver depth chart is wide-open for the Raiders, and Nelson will likely have an opportunity to win a big role on offense. This is a classic Raiders signing, as Nelson has elite speed (he ran a 4.28 at the NFL Combine in 2015) and averages 17.8 yards per reception for his career. Nelson had over 500 receiving yards in 2016 and 2017 before his playing time was scaled back drastically last season when he had just seven receptions for 64 yards. The Raiders have made it clear they wanted to add speed to the roster this offseason, and they’re certainly off to a good start.

Jeff Heuerman | Free Agent TE

The Broncos are re-signing Jeff Heuerman.

Mike Klis of 9News first reported the deal, which is reportedly two years, $9 million. Heuerman came on strong toward the middle of last season, including a ten-reception, 83-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Texans in Week 9; but he suffered broken ribs and a bruised lung in Week 12, which knocked him out for the rest of the season. Heuerman is expected to enter 2019 as the team’s starting tight end, a spot that could deliver TE1 fantasy value with Joe Flacco at quarterback.
