Rob Gronkowski | Retired TE

Rob Gronkowski is “feeling 100%” for today, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says Gronkowski had dealt with both a bulging disc in his back and Achilles tendonitis this season, which helps explain the All-Pro tight end not looking like his usual self and having a down season statistically. This report comes at the same time as an ESPN report stating that Gronk hasn’t made a decision on whether this will be his last game and that he might be leaning toward returning in 2019. For today, we expect Gronk will look about as good as he’s looked all season after two weeks off between the AFC title game and the Super Bowl.

Tyler Higbee | Rams TE

Tyler Higbee scores as Los Angeles advances to Super Bowl LIII.

Higbee caught four passes for 25 yards, including a one-yard touchdown reception in the second half. The 26-year-old will look to once again make an impact against either the Patriots or Chiefs on February 3rd.

Nick Foles | Free Agent QB

The Eagles plan to franchise tag and then trade Nick Foles, according to ESPN.

This report comes just a couple hours after an NFL Network report stated the Eagles want to pickup Foles’ $20 million mutual option, which Foles is fully expected to decline. This ESPN report says the Eagles are looking for a third-round pick for Foles, which should be a price plenty of teams would pay for the 30-year-old quarterback. Foles might not be happy about this, though, as he might not have any control over where he goes. We’ll see if the Eagles do good by their Super Bowl winning quarterback, which they can do by working with him on a potential destination.

Gerald Everett | Free Agent TE

Gerald Everett caught two passes for 50 yards in win over the Saints.

Everett had a clutch 39-yard reception on a third down in the fourth quarter for his biggest play of the game, and he was on the field with Tyler Higbee more often than usual as Sean McVay went away from the 11 personnel at times. We should see a shootout in a couple weeks against either New England or Kansas City.

Nick Foles | Free Agent QB

The Eagles are expected to pick up Nick Foles’ $20 million option, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Obviously, this isn’t a surprise. The only question is whether Nick Foles decides to accept the option (it’s a mutual option). If Foles declines, he’ll have to pay the Eagles $2 million back, basically as a buy out to become a free agent; however, at that point, Philadelphia would probably just franchise tag their Super Bowl MVP quarterback. We expect Foles will decline, and it shouldn’t be out of the question for him to ask the Eagles not to franchise tag him so that he can just sign where he wants without hurting his new team in a trade. The Eagles might not be so willing to do that, though. The Foles situation is one of the biggest storylines as the NFL offseason approaches.

Ted Ginn Jr. | Retired WR

Ted Ginn Jr. catches three passes in Saints’ NFC title game loss.

Ginn gained 58 yards on his three attempts in the playoff loss to the Rams. The speedy veteran receiver had a big reception for 43 yards late in the game when it looked like the pass was going to be intercepted, and it set up the Saints with a shot to basically put the game away with another first down to run out the clock before kicking a potential game-winning field goal—but a non-call on a pass interference a few plays later helped give the Rams a chance to send the game to overtime and win it. Ginn is under contract with the Saints next season, and we expect he’ll be back as at least a situational deep threat.

Cam Newton | Free Agent QB

Cam Newton “has gotten a lot of range of motion back” in his shoulder.

Ron Rivera spoke to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer today, and he said he saw Newton working with the team’s head trainer Ryan Vermillion, who said Newton’s improved in terms of range of motion. Rivera also said the arthroscopic surgery was as minimally invasive as possible, as they went in and cleaned out excess scar tissue, which might have been a complication from his March 2017 surgery. This is great news, and it comes after Newton himself expressed optimism about his recovery after the surgery. With his range of motion improving, Newton will hopefully be able to build his arm strength for next season back up to where it was before these shoulder issues.
