Join now >Chris Carson underwent knee surgery in the offseason.
Pete Carroll announced it today, but Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times said it sounds like he will be ready for training camp. White it sounds like a minor issue that shouldn’t impact Carson’s play, this opens the door a bit for 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny to get more first-team reps and impress the coaching staff. Overall, fantasy owners shouldn’t panic about the news, but it’s something to think about for dynasty owners and early drafters.

Matt Breida has a slightly torn pectoral muscle.
Breida is out until training camp, so this isn’t a huge deal. But any missed time could be costly in a stacked Niners backfield. Breida is going to play a good amount along with Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon, though, and it’ll be interesting to see how the reps are split during camp.

Deshaun Watson praises Keke Coutee.
Watson says the second-year receiver is “playing a lot faster” and with more confidence this year, adding that “you never know what he’s going to do with the ball in his hands” and that they need to find a way to get him the ball when he’s on the field. This is obviously very high praise, but keep in mind it’s coming in May. Still, Coutee showed major flashes when he was healthy and on the field last season—including an 11-catch, 109-yard game in his rookie debut and a 11-catch, 110-yard, 1-touchdown game in the playoff loss to the Colts. Coutee is locked in as a starter with DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, and he should offer definite FLEX upside in 2019 fantasy drafts, particularly in PPR leagues.

The Jets are signing Deonte Thompson.
Thompson spent last season with the Cowboys and Bills, and he can be a strong contributor on special teams. Fantasy wise, Thompson will need to work his way up the depth chart at receiver before he should be considered in deeper leagues.

Tyler Kroft suffered a broken foot.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott says Kroft suffered the broken foot—the same foot he injured last season—yesterday during OTAs, the first day of the offseason training. This is tough news for both the Bills and Kroft after Buffalo signed the former Bengals tight end to a three-year, $18.75 million contract this offseason. Kroft is getting surgery, but the good news is this happened now, so he should have a pretty good chance to still be ready for Week 1. The Bills just recently signed Lee Smith, and third-round rookie Dawson Knox should get more reps during Kroft’s absence.

The Patriots are signing Julian Edelman to a contract extension, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Edelman will turn 33 years old tomorrow (so this is quite the birthday gift for him), and Garafolo says this contract extension should keep the Super Bowl LIII MVP in New England for the rest of his career [Update: it’s a two-year extension]. After a four-game suspension last season, Edelman returned to the lineup and caught 74 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns before starring in the postseason and winning Super Bowl MVP, so he was at his best despite coming off a torn ACL (though keep in mind he was suspended for a PED violation). This is likely a team-friendly deal, as Edelman is an unselfish player that knows he’ll be at his best with the Patriots catching passes from Tom Brady. The veteran receiver should be one of the safest fantasy selections in 2019 drafts.

The Jets are waiving Jordan Leggett, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
The 2017 fifth-round pick was a draft pick of former Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, so this isn’t a huge surprise; but the former Clemson tight end is only 24, and he’ll likely draw a lot of interest around the league. He’ll likely be claimed on waivers by one of the other 31 teams.
