Drew Brees | Retired QB

The Saints restructured Drew Brees’ contract, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Brees is still getting the entire $23 million he’s due in the final year of his contract this season, as this is really just a cap-based move. $10.8 million in cap space will reportedly be cleared, which gives the Saints more room to make moves such as re-signing Teddy Bridgewater (who took a visit with the Dolphins last night) or signing tight end Jared Cook (who is visiting New Orleans). Next season, the Saints will now have a $21.3 million cap number tied to Brees even if he doesn’t come back for another season, but the team will have more overall cap space in 2020. This doesn’t affect Brees’ fantasy value except that it might help the offense add another weapon to the arsenal.

Donte Moncrief | Texans WR

Donte Moncrief reached an agreement on a two-year deal with the Steelers, according to Adam Schefter.

Moncrief wasn’t able to take advantage of a one-year, prove-it deal last season in Jacksonville, but this is probably the best possible landing spot for his fantasy value in 2019 and 2020. He won’t be assured of a starting job, but Moncrief should at least have the inside track in three-wide sets alongside JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington. We think Moncrief is worth targeting in dynasty leagues with the hope JuJu continues playing significant snaps in the slot—thus making Eli Rogers less of a threat for playing time.

Phillip Dorsett | Free Agent WR

The Patriots are re-signing Phillip Dorsett to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The 26-year-old receiver remains in New England for another year with a good shot to win another title before potentially cashing in on a long-term deal in free agency next year. The former first-round pick has seemingly made plays whenever he’s been given opportunities the last two seasons with the Patriots, so we really like this signing for both sides. Hopefully Dorsett will get more opportunities in 2019, which could lead to some major value late in fantasy drafts this summer. Depending on what happens with free agent Chris Hogan (who is currently a free agent) and Josh Gordon, it’s possible Dorsett is the clear No. 2 for the Patriots next season.

Blake Bortles | Retired QB

The Jaguars have released Blake Bortles.

Bortles, who was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, will end his Jacksonville career with 17,646 yards, 103 touchdowns, and 75 interceptions across 75 regular season games (73 starts) in five years. Of course, the highlight came just two seasons ago when he had New England on the ropes in the AFC Championship Game, and Bortles also tied for the league lead in touchdown passes (35) in 2015. Now, Jacksonville will hope new starting quarterback Nick Foles can lift them back into contention, and Bortles should soon land somewhere as a backup that can win games and make plays with his legs when called upon.

Andre Roberts | Texans WR

The Bills are signing Andre Roberts, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

Roberts was named a First-team All-Pro returner last season, so this is obviously a great addition for Buffalo. The veteran receiver can also contribute on offense, but he’s unlikely to deliver much 2019 fantasy value outside of leagues that give points for return yardage.

Marcedes Lewis | Free Agent TE

The Packers are re-signing Marcedes Lewis to a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter.

Lewis caught just three passes for 39 yards in his first season with Green Bay, as he was mostly used as a blocker. Turning 35 in May, won’t be a recommended fantasy next season.

Tevin Coleman | Free Agent RB

The Niners are signing Tevin Coleman to a two-year, $10 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This is a stunner for a few reasons. One, this length and salary doesn’t really seem to match Coleman’s age (26 this April) or skillset (elite acceleration, great top-end speed, and excellent receiver). Two, San Francisco already has Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida in the backfield mix. And three, it’s shocking that teams like the Raiders and Eagles didn’t come with better offers than this reported two-year, $10 million deal. However, it is worth noting that McKinnon’s contract signed last offseason doesn’t have any guaranteed money left, so perhaps they’ll part ways with him. Also, Coleman has a history with Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan, who was previously his offensive coordinator in Atlanta. This is an interesting situation, but we really like Coleman’s ability; depending on what happens with the depth chart, he could be anything from a RB1/RB2 option to a volatile FLEX in 2019.
