Join now >The Dolphins have restructured Albert Wilson’s contract.
Wilson will remain in Miami for the final year of his contract before hitting free agency next offseason. The dynamic receiver might be the early favorite to start in the slot for the Dolphins, but he should get a decent amount of playing time in Chan Gailey’s offense either way.

Antonio Brown says he is retiring from the NFL.
This isn’t the first time Brown has said he’s done with football, and this time it appears to be stemming from his unhappiness with not getting paid for the contract he signed with the Raiders last year after the team terminated him with obvious cause. Brown’s indication that he is retiring could also hint that he’s not getting interest from teams around the league. We suspect AB would play if another team gives him a call, but that might never happen. He’s probably not officially retiring quite yet, though.

The Patriots are signing Cam Newton, according to ESPN.
This is a bit of a surprise, as Newton is not a typical fit for New England’s offensive scheme. However, it sounds like the Patriots are giving Newton a chance to compete for a starting job (it’s being called a “bare minimum” deal and is said to be heavily incentive-based). While this doesn’t guarantee a starting job or even a roster spot for Newton, this is about the best landing spot he could ask for. Keep in mind that this is a shortened offseason of training due to COVID-19, and Bill Belichick and company might not want to throw in an inexperienced option like Jarrett Stidham at quarterback—now, the Pats have a former league MVP in the quarterback room along with Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer. If Newton wins the starting job, look for the Patriots to mix some quarterback-run elements into their offense as they look to tailor the system to the players in place.

Ben Roethlisberger is throwing fully.
Roethlisberger had said that he will not shave his massive beard until he is able to throw an NFL football around like normal, and the two-time Super Bowl quarterback is now clean shaven. The full expectation has been that Roethlisberger would be ready to go for Week 1, and it looks like Big Ben will be able to fully participate throughout any pre-season training that takes place this summer. Pittsburgh is an interesting team because they have a top defense they might want to play to, but a healthy Roethlisberger could certainly step in an operate a high-octane passing attack if the strategy calls for it this season.

The Panthers have released Marcus Murphy.
Carolina actually has a pretty open depth chart behind Christian McCaffrey, but Murphy will look to earn a roster spot elsewhere if he isn’t eventually re-signed. The veteran had spent time with both Buffalo and New Orleans before last season.

Raheem Mostert set to report to the 49ers?
Following the running back’s recent trade request if the Niners will not give him a new contract, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Mostert “spoke to a high-ranking member of the SF organization to clear the air and get on the same page moving forward.” Rapoport adds that Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler says, “hopefully that’ll be the case.” Players are basically forced to report to camp after the new CBA was passed earlier this year, so Mostert probably doesn’t have much power in this showdown. He’ll likely be with San Francisco this season.

Bears wide receivers coach Mike Furrey is excited about Riley Ridley.
As a rookie last season, Ridley (a fourth-round selection and the brother of Falcons receiver and former first-round pick Calvin Ridley) didn’t get time on offense until late in the year, but Furrey says Riley “now has the confidence he can play in the NFL.” Furrey told the Chicago Sun-Times that Ridley has “the passion… to become successful in this game.” The Bears have a deep receiving corps that includes fellow Georgia product Javon Wims, but Ridley will look to carve out a sizable role behind Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller in 2020.
