Join now >Corey Clement (shoulder) is likely to miss a week or two, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport says the Eagles might know more later in the week, but expect Clement to miss time. Philadelphia is fortunate to be deep at running back, but Clement’s loss will also be felt on special teams. Miles Sanders might get more time at kick returner during Clement’s likely absence.

The Jets officially promoted Luke Falk from the practice squad.
Falk is backing up Trevor Siemian while Sam Darnold is out with mono. The 2018 sixth-round pick would not be a highly recommended fantasy option if forced into action.

Ben Roethlisberger (elbow surgery) is out for the season.
The Steelers just released a statement from head coach Mike Tomlin, reading: “Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required. We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season.” This is obviously a terrible break for the Roethlisberger and the Steelers, who are now 0-2 and without their future Hall of Fame starting quarterback. Second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph now has a huge opportunity in front of him as he looks to become the long-term option at the position after Big Ben retires, but this is a definite blow to Pittsburgh’s offense including skill position players James Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Rudolph played well in yesterday’s loss to Seattle, though, and he has the ability to keep the Steelers in contention. Roethlisberger’s season ends with 351 yards and one interception; he’ll turn 38 this offseason, but he just signed a two-year extension with the team earlier this year.

Tyler Higbee went to the hospital for a chest injury.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the Rams tight end went to the hospital as a precaution, but it still sounds pretty bad, as Higbee was reportedly coughing up blood because of an injury to his lung. Rapoport says Higbee won’t miss much time with the injury if he does miss time, but we’d say he’s probably on the doubtful side of things for Week 3 against the Browns.

Drew Brees is undergoing surgery on his injured thumb.
Brees has torn ligaments in his right thumb, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says surgery is likely to keep him out for six weeks, but “the timeframe depends on the surgery.” If all goes well, Brees should only miss six games, but there might be a chance he returns in time for Week 8 against the Cardinals at just under the six-week mark. New Orleans has a Week 9 bye, though, and the most probable return date is likely Week 10 for an NFC South matchup against the Falcons. Teddy Bridgewater is more than capable of stepping in and playing well to help keep the Saints in contention, but Brees’ absence is a downgrade for the entire Saints offense from a fantasy perspective, including Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas. New Orleans next six games are against Seattle, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Chicago, and Arizona.

The Browns promoted Elijah McGuire to their active roster, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Dontrell Hilliard is out with a concussion for Cleveland, so McGuire figures to be active for tonight’s game against the Jets. McGuire is not a recommended fantasy option, but he’ll look to play well while mixing in behind starter Nick Chubb.

Devonta Freeman struggles on the ground in Falcons’ Week 2 win.
Freeman had 11 carries for 22 yards, but he also added three receptions for 42 yards as the Falcons edged out the Eagles, 24-20. There wasn’t much room for Freeman to run, but Ito Smith had four carries for 32 yards and has looked more explosive through two games. Freeman could be an ideal buy-low candidate for owners disappointed with him as an early draft pick, but there’s definite concern about his fantasy outlook at the moment. Perhaps Freeman needs time to get back into the swing of things after basically missing all of last season. He gets the Colts in Week 3.
