Join now >The Redskins are placing Jordan Reed (concussion) on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Reed has unfortunately been dealing with his latest of several concussions since the preseason, and he’s been unable to get cleared. The former Pro Bowl tight end’s career is thought to be in jeopardy because of all the injuries he’s gone through, but he turns just 30 this offseason. Not many NFL players have had much worse injury luck than Reed.

Drew Brees (thumb) posts video of himself throwing.
On Instagram, Brees posted three clips of him throwing along with the caption “Shhhhhhhhh….” with a few emojis. Brees does not appear to be throwing an actual NFL football, so it might have been a lighter ball; but he was throwing at full speed and didn’t appear to be hindered despite just recently undergoing thumb surgery. Brees had surgery just a little over two weeks ago and reportedly had a six-to-eight week recovery time, but it looks like he’s going to blow that away. If Brees is somehow available in your league, he’s worth a pickup.

Damien Williams leads Chiefs backfield in Week 5.
Returning from a two-game absence because of a knee injury, Williams was the clear leader in Kansas City’s backfield against the Colts, carrying nine times for 23 yards along with three receptions for 15 yards. There was a play on the first drive where Williams ran a wheel route up the seam and was targeted in the end zone, but he could not come up with it after he might have either lost it in the lights a bit of just lost track of where he was on the field and tried to stay in bounds before reaching and securing the ball. Meanwhile, LeSean McCoy did not receive a carry in the game, and he had two receptions for 23 yards but also lost a key fumble when the Chiefs were driving into Colts territory; Darrel Williams did not receive a touch. There were no goal-line situations to get a glimpse at, but Darrel Williams was in the game for short-yardage and pass protection at least a couple of times. Overall, though, it looks like Damien Williams, who did receive a key fourth-down carry late in the game that was stuffed because of poor blocking, remains the clear leader in the backfield after his return, and he’s the top fantasy option to use from the group next week against the Texans.

Vance McDonald (shoulder) officially remains out of practice.
McDonald is looking shaky for Week 5 against the Bengals, but we’ll let you know how he’s listed on the final injury report ahead of the weekend. For now, expect McDonald to miss his second consecutive game.

The Jets waived Luke Falk.
Falk started every game during Sam Darnold’s absence because of mono, but the Jets are now going with David Fales as Darnold’s backup quarterback. Falk could land back on the Jets practice squad soon.

The Raiders signed Marcell Ateman to the active roster.
Ateman gives Oakland a big-bodied presence at receiver, and this move might indicate that there’s pessimism about the status of Tyrell Williams (foot) for tomorrow’s game in London. For fantasy purposes, Ateman is just a dynasty league option for now.

Marlon Mack helps lead Colts to upset win at Arrowhead.
Mack carried 29 times for 132 yards and added three receptions for 16 yards in the Colts’ 19-13 Sunday night Week 5 victory. Despite coming into the game battling an ankle sprain, Mack was again Indy’s workhorse running back and ran the ball very well, showing great patience, vision, burst, and power throughout the night. The only thing missing from the performance was a touchdown or two from Mack, but he and the offensive line—along solid play from quarterback Jacoby Brissett and a defense that plays with tremendous effort—are helping the Colts lead the AFC South early in the season. Mack will now have the bye week to rest up and get closer to 100% before facing the Texans at home in Week 7.
