Join now >The Chargers have selected Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
We’ve now had three quarterbacks go in the top six, as Herbert goes right behind Tua Tagovailoa (to Miami). Herbert was a four-year starter at Oregon (in his hometown of Eugene), and he’ll stay on the West Coast and move down to southern California as the franchise quarterback of the Chargers. Veteran Tyrod Taylor is currently the starter for Los Angeles, so the franchise can afford to be patient with Herbert and not play him until he’s ready. But when Herbert does take over the starting job, he’ll likely be in an offense that has Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hunter Henry, and Austin Ekeler among the skill position players. Our scouting report on Herbert can be read in the link below.

The Dolphins have selected Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Tagovailoa entered 2019 as the favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2020 draft, but he’ll drop to No. 5 overall after the Dolphins sit and wait to get their guy. The smooth lefty throws the ball with great timing and accuracy, and he was one of the most efficient passers in college football history—his main concern as a player is durability, as he dealt with multiple injuries during his time with the Crimson Tide. Tagovailoa lands in a situation that will likely be patient with his hip injury, as Ryan Fitzpatrick played well leading the offense last season. When he hits the field, Tua has a chance to operate an exciting spread attack currently coordinated by Chan Gailey.

The Bengals have selected LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Burrow to Cincinnati was obviously a foregone conclusion heading into the night, and now the work will begin for the Ohio native. Last year in Baton Rouge, Burrow put together perhaps the greatest season in college football history, and it concluded both with a national championship and Heisman Trophy. The Bengals have the weapons and offensive system in place for Burrow to have immediate real-life and fantasy success, but a deep quarterback group probably makes him nothing more than a late-round option in redraft leagues—especially considering 25% of his games will be against Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Long term, Burrow has the upside to become a perennial 4,000-yard, 30-touchdown passer.

The Patriots are signing Marqise Lee to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Lee was recently released by Jacksonville, and he somewhat surprisingly was able to find a landing spot—and a good one at that—before the draft. As we stated when he was released, Lee’s biggest issue is health more than talent, and he will have a shot to earn legitimate WR3 value if he can stay on the field and earn the trust of New England’s coaching staff and quarterback. The Patriots will also likely draft a wideout to compete behind Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry, and Lee.

Trey Burton has agreed to terms with the Colts.
The versatile veteran tight end does well to land with a team before the start of the NFL draft tomorrow night, and he rejoins Colts head coach Frank Reich, who was the offensive coordinator with the Eagles during part of Burton’s time in Philadelphia. Burton will work as a complementary piece in Indy’s offense, which utilizes many multiple tight end sets.

The Colts re-signed Marcus Johnson.
Indy didn’t tender Johnson ahead of free agency this year, but the deep threat will return to the team before the NFL draft begins tomorrow night. Johnson will look to gain the trust of new quarterback Philip Rivers and become a frequent target on passes down the field from the veteran quarterback in particular this season.

Percy Harvin is coming out of retirement, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Harvin tells Anderson, “I’m ready to return to the NFL. I thought I was done, but that itch came back. I’ve been training with a former Olympian. My body is feeling good. Mentally I’m better. My family is good. The timing is right.” Harvin is still just 31 years old (will turn 32 next month), but he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016, so this is an interesting comeback attempt. It’s no lock that Harvin is able to find the right opportunity, but he’s an explosive athlete that could intrigue teams looking for an addition on offense and special teams.
